Do you mean the left blue pane? Go to System Properties, then to Advanced tab, click Settings under Performance section, and then untick the "Use common tasks in folders" option.

that images links can be showed?
to be honest i LOVE the Windows ME\2000 Theme... but Windows ME is more unstable for what i need.... so i STOP with Windows XP.... but i  need change some theme options for be like Windows ME ;)
i can get:
1 - HDD NTFS more than 5000GB's;
2 - more than 2GB's of RAM;
3 - sound(with SounFX emulator... disable and enable if is need) for MS-DOS games...
but i need more:
1 - change the Theme for be Like Windows ME(not only Classic Theme);
2 - let Windows XP install Windows Vista\7\8\10 programs\games (i know that theres more than ON-ONE-API fan thing.. the Extender XP that we can use with menu(Left mouse button), but can't find it and is more System Stable)
thanks for all

If you want icons, then those need to be replaced in shell32.dll and a few other dlls (netshell, mydocs,...). I made a replacement for WinXP SP1 a long time ago, but never made anything like this for recent SP or Server because it was too much work, and Resource Hacker sometimes causes corruption if saved multiple times. I heard of a scripted wizard for this created by someone with an account on Deviant Art. I think it was called "Inexperience". But I have never used it myself. It may support multiple versions of Windows.

Yes, it's called Inexperience Patcher. All what it does is just patch most system files to have Windows 2000 look, and changes Windows XP's branding to Windows 2002. It doesn't have anything extra (i.e., wallpapers, sounds from Windows 2000) besides that. And it only supports 32-bit XP, no support for 64-bit XP. The patcher also hasn't received an update since 2007-03-17. Personally, I consider Inexperience Patcher not 100% perfect, I never understood especially why it has Windows 2002 and not Windows 2000.

thank you so much...

Yes, it is that blue pane. It's called common tasks, it's not tabs.

I think I saw somewhere on MSFN a method of bringing this shell to XP, but I don't remember where was it. Will need to search for it.

  • 7 months later...

maybe someone should search where those images are hidden, maybe they hidden in resources

that my documents is just a folder something like "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents"

the themes are useally in "C:\WINDOWS\Media" you can change these sounds to something you like

the basic background should be in "C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper", here you can choose the folder + file is readed from

if i want to test the soundcard in windows xp i useally go "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Music\Sample Music" and play beethoven

if you want a certain ICON you may use exting extractors such as "iconsext"
