upgrade or not?

ok im debating on upgrading my pc. its 10 years old in june. i play games, not alot casual(tried new far cry 6 and the last of us, but wont run)  surf the web and watch tv shows on it.   Or i dont get a new pc and hold out until my pc is 15 years old.

 

my currrent pc right now is:

 

AMD A8 6600k overclocked to 4.29GHZ(stock fan)

8GB DDR3 1600mhz ram(1 stick of ram)

Gigabyte GTX 760 2GB overclocked- 60 core, 610 memory

MSI A78-m motherboard

2TB 7200rpm hard drive

850 watt power supply

dvd rom drive(dont know what speed)

wireless usb mouse

PS2 keyboard

Dell 17" LCD monitor(got it free a few years old from a co-worker)

 

 

i want to keep this new pc (hopefully) for another 10-15 years. i looked around for used and new systems. i narrowed it down to these. all prices are in CAD dollars. i would be playing at 1280x1024 not like very high quality.

 

Used systems:

 

first one:

 

i7 4790

 

16gb ram

 

2x500gb hard drive

 

onboard video card

300 bucks without GPU and 120gb ssd or 330 with 512gb ssd m.2

 

350 with the 580 but just the 120gb ssd, 8gb of ram.

 

400 with the rx Sapphire pulse 580, but only a 126gb ssd with it. <--The 580 is actually never been used. It's sat in the box. only tested if it works.

 

440 with Sapphire pulse 580 and the 500gb ssd

edit i played cypherpunk 2077 v1.62 on my pc and it ran at 30 fps with all low settings!

The Dell OptiPlex i5-12500T wins in this ilst hands down.

Followed by the HP Pavilion i7-10700F.

Third "factory" is the AMD Ryzen 3 3100 - but if you are going to overclock, then this moves to the top of the list (I personally no longer overclock, "been there, done that").

ps - I can't guarantee that the overclocked AMD would pass the OptiPlex or the Pavilion, it *might* but wouldn't know without "bench testing".

The described PC is 100% of the Vista era. It's more like 16 years old.

Even the ancient Quad Q9650 beats the hell out of that AMD

Effective Speed  of Quad at stock is 2% faster . Now imagine if Quad is overclocked !

I'm not surprised, AMD is always several years behind , at least , if not a decade behind.

GTX 760 2GB is a rebranded version of the old and reduced version of GTX 670 2GB,

GTX 670 2GB is 6% faster . It's not even the normal GTX680 4gb version !

Maybe, but Dell tends to lock the hell out of their BIOS, so his upgrade path (a new GPU, for example) could be blocked forever.

Also, Dell tends to use cheap (low power) PSUs - so again, future upgrades are in question.

The same could be said about HP. locked BIOS, small PSU, etc.

As an example, I couldn't upgrade an eleven years HP tower to a new GTX780, until I ordered a Dell branded OEM version of GTX780, weird, right ? Dell worked in HP !

Could be they have some sort of a colab, I dunno.

EDIT: Dell still could be a good option, if the price is right, esp. with discounts,

Amazes me that somebody would give that much for a year-old used desktop PC when $600 buys one "refurbished" or $820 buys one brand-spanking-new with TWICE the RAM.

This is not a good upgrade. Both, GeForce on his used PC and Radeon on your new one, were in the realm of low-budget $200 cards in 2019. (more than 4 years ago!)

4GB on that Radeon looks like a joke, and Nvidia 1660 is not even the Ti one , also considered super low budget even then !

I agree with you, what he writes is quite confusing, and it's rather disappointng to see someone from Canada (!!?!!) with that level of English. 

In any case, I also agree with you - it's better to buy a new one instead of inhaling someone else's dirt/dust from an old PC. 

If he's on a tight budget, just skip a dedicated card completely and buy a good NEW PC without it,

Later add something like RTX3070.

everything is sold. even went to my local computer store and they said alot of computer parts are on backorder.
