msfntor Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Is my computer dying? Black screen at startup recently, in 2 days, 3 times already! Restarting the computer, and is good for now... but for how long?... Found this link: Black Screen at Boot on Windows? Here's How to Fix It: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/fix-black-screen-boot/ Right now I'm not doing anything...
msfntor Posted April 24, 2023 Author Posted April 24, 2023 ...intermittently when the computer boots ... it's today's news...
UCyborg Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Does the monitor lose signal? I think I'd run MemTest in any case, just in case, next would be to see if the issue only happens on Windows and if replacing the graphics card with a spare (if you have it) helps. 1
msfntor Posted April 26, 2023 Author Posted April 26, 2023 Rebooting the monitor resolves the fading problem...
UCyborg Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 Out of curiosity, what problematic monitor do you have? One disk started getting wonky here, whether the rest will follow is yet to be seen. The whole computer is 14 years old and only few components are younger, the remaining disks should still be over the decade old, but the youngest component, a GPU, is 9 years old. The second monitor is 19 years old and still working without noticeable defects.
