Bizzbob installer crashes and the default one gives a lot of errors Try installing it manually as described in the guide and skip 32-bit files as many users reported problems with them. I would also recommend to install the March 6 version, not March 9 because it is more stable.

TSNH Posted October 12, 2023 Author Posted October 12, 2023 Automatic file permissions repairing .bat If you go for manual installation of the extended kernel you will have to fix file permissions for all files you have replaced. Now, instead of doing this manually, you can run the following .bat: October 2022 x64: october2022_x64_extended_kernel_set_permission.bat I may do .bats for newer versions too if errors in March 2023 builds get fixed. special thanks to @Bizzbob for figuring out language-neutral account names
HarryCat Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 I tried this kernel replacement on Vista 64bit as well as the one for WinXP 64bit because I have both operating systems and both gave me the same error on boot up stating that the WINLOAD.exe file is not signed and there is no key to press to bypass it. I didn't use Method 1 because I was not sure about installing the 32bit WOW64 files, , so I used Method 2 by over writing the system32 files using Linux Mint 21.3. I'm glade I made a backup copy of the system files.

Are you sure you ran bcdedit /set {current} nointegritychecks yes ? Here is how to do this post installation, but it's a bit harder that pre-installation https://msfn.org/board/topic/183046-guide-vista-extended-kernel-installation/?do=findComment&comment=1246958
HarryCat Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 Hello, Sorry for taking so long to get back. I kind of wrecked my Windows Vista system trying to get the two Windows 2008 updates to install. Every time I installed it, It would install like normal and then after the reboot the system would state that the configuration didn't go right and revert back to the original state. I tried to force it to accept the two updates and I crashed the system beyond repair, so I'm currently reinstalling Vista at the moment. But anyway, I discovered something very interesting, the Version of 64bit Vista I have is Build 6002 which is the very first version of Vista that came out back in 2006, I purchased it on Ebay because Amazon was sold out.. The Build version that the Extended Kernel is looking for is Build 6003... The Windows 2008 updates is for build 6003. So I'm thinking that there is some kind of compatibility issue that's beyond my understanding. BTW, I didn't run the bcdedit because I was distracted by my phone ringing and I lost where I was at in following the instructions. . I'm thinking that I will probably have to install a different version of 64 bit Vista on my system to get the windows 2008 updates to install correctly.
HarryCat Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 I forgot to add this image on the build number.

Officially however you need also all Vista updates till 2017 not just sp2. Some users reported success with only installing some updates (you need platform update and supplement for sure, but there are also others needed), but here are all of them, (you don't need hotfixes unless you are specifically affected by issues they fix and you also probably don't need Media Center TV pack etc.) https://msfn.org/board/topic/181756-windows-vista-update-repository-until-april-2017/?do=findComment&comment=1185620 You may need to get used to the bulk installations with scripts described there 7 hours ago, HarryCat said: have to install a different version of 64 bit Vista on my system you are probably missing some updates Edited September 5, 2024 by TSNH
HarryCat Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 OK, I'll try it again this coming weekend, I'm currently working on a Windows 2000/XP/Linux triple booting 32bit system at the moment. I had the system almost build and then had to change the motherboard along with all the drives due to it only having a PCI-E 1.1 slot instead of a PCI-E 2.0 or PCI-E 3.0 slot.

Each version of Kernel needs only 1 (yes, one) update. This was all written by the developer in the Kernel Topic. https://msfn.org/board/topic/181612-wip-windows-vista-extended-kernel/ Example, the last Kernel only needs the SHA2 update, other versions need other updates, you can all find it there. For Vista SP2, the below step is optional (as per the original developer notes). "3. Update your Vista to 2017 EOL version (especially install sp1,sp2 and the platform update)"
