Joaquim Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 - when i turn on the computer, why the win98 seems stops for some seconds 10-20s and then continues? - is there a patch for turn off the computer automatic?(i mean without we need press the button fisicly)
pangoomis Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 Two most common issues regarding long boot up times in 98SE: 1. DHCP - you must assign the IP address of the device manually in Network control panel rather than using DHCP as that cause a long delay in boot. I think this was fixed in Windows ME, but I'm not 100% sure. 2. Leaving USB flash drives plugged in when the unofficial USB drivers are installed. As for the shutdown problem, you can try these things: 1. Installing the Windows 98 SE Shutdown Supplement. 2. Reinstalling Windows 98 SE with the /p i switch to avoid installing buggy ACPI which may cause problems with shutdown. 3. If you have NVIDIA GPU, using the Shutdown Fix. 4. Using different unofficial USB drivers.

RainyShadow Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 In the network settings if you have "Client for Microsoft Networking", open its properties and select "Quick Logon". When booting, press F8, select "Step by step", and see if any specific steps/drivers cause a long delay. Also, remove that scratched CD from the drive, lol.

Joaquim Posted March 31, 2021 Author Posted March 31, 2021 instead the message "Now is Safe Turn Off the computer", just turn off!!!
MERCURY127 Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 u try look in readme file? Quote Normally, when selecting the "Shutdown" item from the "Shutdown Windows" menu win.com of 9x performs a (useless at 2019) shutdown procedure machines through APM with the subsequent, if unsuccessful, the output of the picture and stopping the machine. With the patch, these steps will be skipped, and instead will be called a regular procedure, which, when Windows starts, executes the DOSSTART.BAT batch file, and now it will also be execute WINEXIT.BAT when exiting Windows, if this batch file is found in the folder %WINDIR%. In this batch file you can give any of your commands, which you want, for example: WINEXIT.BAT: @echo off fdapm poweroff echo. echo If computer now retain on, you can turn off it manually. echo. This batch file will try to turn off the machine through the APM/ACPI interfaces. In this way You can achieve a complete shutdown of the latest machines, where APM has long been absent, and their new ACPI is useless for 9x.
Joaquim Posted March 31, 2021 Author Posted March 31, 2021 now i get it... i have the same text: Quote @echo off fdapm poweroff echo. echo If computer now retain on, you can turn off it manually. echo. what i can change for turn off the computer? yes i don't know the bat commands
Joaquim Posted March 31, 2021 Author Posted March 31, 2021 i edit from here: https://www.robvanderwoude.com/shutdown.php but the laptop only reboots Quote @echo off fdapm poweroff echo. echo If computer now retain on, you can turn off it manually. echo. RUNDLL32 KRNL386.EXE,exitkernel why reboots and not turn off?
MERCURY127 Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 14 hours ago, Joaquim said: RUNDLL32 KRNL386.EXE,exitkernel 1) download ACPIOFF 2) extract WINEXIT.BAT, FDAPM.COM, WIN.ENG to WINDIR, 3) backup your original WIN.COM to safe place, 4) rename WIN.ENG to WIN.COM with replace, 5) reboot machine. after this you can turn off machine succesfully.
