Hello, What updates do i need to make windows update client work ? after clean install from : "en_windows_8.1_enterprise_with_update_x64_dvd_6054382.iso"

i'm trying to avoid monthly rollup's so i can't go straight to them i'm gonna only install security ones.

Well first off, the you've obviously burned the DVD-ROM from an downloaded ISO.  So is it legal?

Next thing, Windows Update will just work by searching for updates, so if you just want to download security-only patches after October 2016, I would use either WSUS or the Microsoft Update Catalog.  Then you can run Windows Update again afterwards and install the other .NET and IE 11 updates.

Well, no i didn't. it's a virtual machine with original and legal iso which i obtained when i had msdn subscription so it's very legal.

i did used WSUS no help.. even after i installed everything.. whats the point of using WSUS and then avoid monthly rollups when you already have all the telemetry crap before rollups was the thing.. because WSUS will install all the : KB3068707, KB3081954, KB3021917, KB3075249, KB3068708, KB3080149, KB3022345, KB2952664, and so one..

You can lost in the Microsoft Update Catalog.. no point of using that if you don't know what you need..

Also WHDownloader is very useful tool but that don't solve any of my problems.. its about what i need to make windows update client to work not to how to install everything basically to make it work, why do i even need then update client when i do all this manually..

Also i'm running in audit mode is that a problem ? because it's no issue when doing this with windows 7.

wow Markokk888.

you did not mention the KB3172614 update in any of your posts, which permanently fixes the Windows Update Client problem under Windows 8.1 (MS support KB article 3163023).  Fix was first included in KB3161606 and later included in KB3172614.

manually download and install the KB3172614 update from the MS Update Catalog site (need either KB3021910 or KB3173424 servicing stack update installed first) and reboot.  after Win8.1 reloads, run Windows Update.
