Ironman69
Yo fellas! I recently needed to do a recovery installation on my old Win98SE Pc and i’ve run into an annoying snag at boot-up. Every time the Windows splash screen appears, the screen suddenly goes into the command prompt and says: ACCESS DENIED C:\> In order for me to continue into loading Windows I need to type: CD WINDOWS C:\WINDOWS> WIN then she boots up fine. How do I fix this annoyance??
Destro
Need to be more specific, how did you preform a recovery process. It's probably something in your win.ini or msdos.sys or config.sys. If you could explain exactly what you did there could be a clue as to what happened. MERCURY127
and also do scan ur HDDs for bads and bugs, first in MHDD/Victoria for physical defects, after this - in Scandisk.
assenort
Hi partner, When you type C:\Windows\Win, this manually executes the WIN.COM file - an important thingy for the OS to boot successfully (it loads the system files). Normally, Win.com is invoked automatically by IO.SYS, and possibly by Autoexec.bat (not entirely sure about this). So my humble suggestion is to check and see the status of IO.SYS - I guess that in your case it is either missing or corrupted. More info on the situation: http://www.davidakroyd.com/W98start.htm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WIN.COM Best :-)
Destro
[Paths] WinDir=C:\WINDOWS WinBootDir=C:\WINDOWS HostWinBootDrv=C [Options] BootMulti=1 Logo=1 BootGUI=1 DoubleBuffer=1 AutoScan=1 WinVer=4.10.2222 ; ;The following lines are required for compatibility with other programs. ;Do not remove them (MSDOS.SYS needs to be >1024 bytes). ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxa ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxb ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxc ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxd ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxe ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxf ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxg ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxh ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxi ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxj ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxk ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxl ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxm ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxn ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxo ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxp ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxq ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxr ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxs no it can't be IO.sys the computer wouldn't boot to dos without it. then he is launching win.com from dos. To me now that a re read what you wrote I think the problem is your msdos.sys. It doesn't have the right info in it to boot. your msdos.sys should have something similar to this in it. Ironman69
I fixed it. Apparently, I had a extra copy of win.com ( 0kb ) in the Windows folder. I deleted it and rebooted, now it boots right to Windows as it should.
