Tokugawapants Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 When attempting to run Windows XP, it brings me to the screen where you can choose the safe modes or normal etc. However, when I pick any of the choices, it gives me the following message:Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMYou can atteempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.I realize that it does not state which drive the Windows folder is in (it's in C).I am like many other people, and I purchase computers with pre-installed Operating Systems, and I rarely upgrade. Thus, I do not have a Windows Setup CD-ROM. I have other computers running Windows XP Home Edition, and I was wondering if anyone could help me in fixing this problem.
XtremeMaC Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 do u have something that u can set it up with?i mean some companies put the i386 folder in to the c drive or make another drive (d) and put it over there...if u have that u can setup again but when it prompts u what to do when it says "windows have been found, what shall i do" type of dialog just say repair" btw that "system" file its a 4.75mb file.i'm thinking that file should be unique to your computer. so it might not be on the cd. also maybe u can try go to start menugo to runtype sfc /scannow and it should place the files back though as i said i think that file gets created not copied. i'm sure someone else with greater knowledge will reply when they get up
LiquidSage Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 Try this slimmed XP Recovery CD ISO. It is ~ 7megs and can quickly be included in a MultiBoot cd if one knows about such things.
Tokugawapants Posted April 8, 2004 Author Posted April 8, 2004 Thanks for the .ISO! Even though I'm not too familiar with Multiboot CDs, I'll figure out eventually. Thanks again.
Datalore Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 That's a nice ISO! Where did you find that? Or if you made it, how did you know which files you needed?
