The PC was on AHCI mode; the Thinkpad R60 only provides two options in the BIOS: "ACHI" and "Compatibility."

Thank you for the clarification of limited high drive speeds. It makes sense why the system was kinda unstable.

Attempting this again. Not sure what the issue is, but the display driver is not allowing higher resolutions or better colors despite installing the chipset and display driver just fine.

I noticed the driver wouldn't install unless I had DirectX 9 included.
