Hi,

I am trying to use RIS (on 2003 Server) to load Win PE and then use Powerquest tools to deploy an image.

This all works fine apart from on Compaq Evo ( ) D510 machines - the RIS component will load but soon after trying to start PE I receive the error:

File e100bnt5.sys caused an unexpected error (21) at line 3752 in D:\XPSP1\base\boot\setup\setup.c

Initially there were problems getting even RIS to work on this PC type due to the NIC (Intel Pro VM 100) but I have resolved this and RIS on its own is fine

Are the drivers up to date? I know alot of people had alot of trouble with Intel NIC's in winpe. Also check out the pinned links at the top, they have alot of info, especially in the news groups and you don't need to be registered with OEM to use them.

Thanks for that, but I have tried 4 different sets of drivers including the latest offerings from Compaq and Intel and still the same problem.

We had the same problem, just try intel drivers instead HP drivers... ;-)

aren't you using the wrong driver?

the e100bnt5.sys is for windows 2000

you should be using e100b325.sys and e100b325.inf, this combo works well with

intel GB adapters

Oh, remember to delete all existing e100 files including the .pnf.

I copy all files into relavent $oem$ directory and copy infs to inf folder, sys to system32 and all into the i386 root.

The problem happened to me as there was a rouge sys file there.

Obvioulsy, you know about the modified infs and restarting binlsvc?

It would help if you explained how you updated the nic drivers in your winpe image.
