slow deletion

from time to time I experience the symptoms Vista had

takes minutes for OS (sp1) to "discover" and "calculate"

its freaking annoying, how to force OS to just delete the freaking files/folders ?

even 1 file of less than 10 MB it calculates and postpones....

Are these files/dirs on the hard drive or removeable media?

 

Also is this a volume where you have indexing enabled?

The suggested workaround (set aside the one about rebooting in safe mode and running an antivirus provided by am MS "expert"  ) is to:

Right click, properties, uncheck both "File is ready for archiving" and "Allow this file to have contents indexed in addition to file", then delete.
