albator Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Hi, I am not currently using windows 8, but I did some changes on my stepdad pc. I did install the 8.1 update, changed the boot default to metro (his request) and thenconfigured to autologin without asking for a password. The problem is that the password was changed to blank (nothing) and it worked well for a fews days. Now the pc is booting and asking for a password and we cannot login ? My experience with windows 2000,xp, and vista/7 never gave me such strange results. May someone explain to me how to fix this ?
DosProbie Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Well there are some commercial Windows password unlockers but you should be able to remove or reset it manually here:http://www.isunshare.com/windows-8-password/windows-8.1-password-reset-when-forgot-it.html ~DP
albator Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 Thank, i knew about this, but do you know what could have caused the isssue ?
DosProbie Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 (edited) No, I never use a logon password since i like booting straight to the desktop and the same with Updates which have a way of messing up the system more that helping. ~DP Edited July 7, 2014 by DosProbie
Tripredacus Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 I have seen some instances where a password will expire after 30 days. Which is why I keep this little command around: wmic useraccount where "name='UserName'" set PasswordExpires=false However, I have not seen this happen on any systems I have personally used, just client PCs. I also do not use blank passwords.
adamt Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Thank, i knew about this, but do you know what could have caused the isssue ? Are you sure the password is still blank? Could somebody have changed it?Once you get back in again, check your security log for event ID 4738.
adamt Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 I have seen some instances where a password will expire after 30 days. Usually, with an expired password, you would still be able to login, but you'd be prompted to change it.
jaclaz Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Shameless plug (actually a half-plug ) but check if PassPass has been updated to cover your OS (I am not sure if Update 1 has changed the involved .dll ):http://rmprepusb.blogspot.it/2013/06/passpass-for-e2b-now-available.htmlhttp://reboot.pro/topic/18588-passpass-bypass-the-password/http://www.sherlock.reboot.pro/passpass-bypass-the-password/ jaclaz
