Glenn9999 Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I'm running into a problem (more generic one than a 8.1 one, though, but it's happening there), that I'm not seeing a solution to - perhaps just not putting the right things into the search engine...anyhow, how do you do a successful shortcut to an EXE that's greater than 64 characters (I found this limit out through testing)? What I get right now when the EXE path is > 64 characters is that it just does nothing... Any help on what to do to solve this?
Glenn9999 Posted June 30, 2014 Author Posted June 30, 2014 I was getting a weird error in posting this so I tried it a few times. I see they all posted. Please delete the others, thanks.
Tripredacus Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I'm thinking that a more advanced linking/junctions would be needed. I haven't tried it but Windows already has links to objects with large paths. If your application requires a specific working directory, you may have to consider that too. Otherwise, see if you can relocate or reinstall the program in a custom location.http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-symlinks-in-windows-vista/
osRe Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 That doesn't sound familiar. I know of a ~255 chars limit in Explorer and maybe other places, but not 64. Can you give more details?
NoelC Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Please describe HOW you got it figured out. That might help others who find this thread. Thanks. -Noel
