POSReady 2009 updates ported to Windows XP SP3 ENU

Will those later .NET updates for Server 2003 install on XP as they are, or do they need to be modified?

I only have KB2931352, KB2931365, and KB2932079 installed at the moment, and they were from modified installers.

Updates .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 can be installed without problems.

.NET Framework 1.1 updates are not possible to install without modifications such as those in KB2931352.

egrabrych - for a noob like myself, please list the KB numbers for the Updates for .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 that I can install without modifications or problems.

 

I'll go to MS, download them and run them myself.

 

(I will NOT try to install any that require modification - I don't know how to do that.)

I installed KB3037577 (.NET 2.0 SP2) and KB3037578 (.NET 4.0). Up to this point I have not noticed any problems.

KB3037578 replaces KB2901110V2 installed in February 2014:

This is the situation on my pc.

Goodness, I had no idea that there were so many!

I only have the first two installed.

Have they actually stopped offering .NET updates to POSReady machines through Windows Update?

None of those were as far as I'm aware.

I would have thought that there would be .NET applications running on machines with that flavour of OS.

Bersaglio - thanks so much for such a detailed list!  So I checked on my XP SP3 32-bit machine in Add-Remove Programs (Show Updates), and I do NOT have these particular updates listed - they were never installed.  (The others on your list were installed.)

Does this shorter list of missing updates make sense under the circumstances?  (I have been using Misrosoft Update with the POS 2009 hack.)

I have all these updates installed without any problems with my system. Since these are security updates I can recommend You to install them in that order.

 

P.S. I have been temporarily using POSReady 2K9 hack on my XP SP3 Pro EN during POSReady 2K9 specific updates installation. But this hack is not needed for .NET Framework 2.0-4.0 updates.

It seems that POSReady 2009 system have very limited .NET Framework functionality (or do not have it at all).

By the way, I installed the not-yet-installed updates for your list on my very old GX 280 just to see if it would blow up.  Didn't.

AFAIK there shouldn't be any sequence problems. OS itself and Windows installer should take care of this automatically.

 

About KB2938780 (NET 4 ): This update is questionable. On the one hand the update description says "Description of the security update for the .NET Framework 4 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: May 13, 2014" on the other hand we can read the following "This update is for the Microsoft .NET Framework to disable RC4 in Transport Layer Security (TLS) through the modification of the system registry. Use of RC4 in TLS could allow an attacker to perform man-in-the-middle attacks and recover plaintext from encrypted sessions.". TLS 1.0 is definitely supported on Windows XP. Currently, due to vulnerabilities in SSL 2.0/3.0, TLS remains the last secure protocol in XP.

Moreover Supported Operating System list says "Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista" (if I remember correctly Windows XP was listed at the release time of this update).

So - Why "security update for the .NET Framework 4 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2" can be successfully installed on XP, Server 2003, Vista and Server 2008? Strange, isn't it?

This update has been successfully installed on my system, zero problems so far. Decide for yourself, is it worth to install it or not.

While my very old Dell GX280 (XP Pro SP3 32-bit but slow) continues to boot up with all these updates, including Bersglio's list above for .NET, that's just my test machine in case this stuff makes it expire forever.  It's rebooted a few times the last hours without problem, but I don't know where to go on the web to test whether its updated .NET is working.

 

I shall hold off a few days doing Bersaglio's .NET manual updates on my more important must-work XP machine (Optiplex 755DT) until more of you readers here try them.

 

So, everyone who tries Bersaglio's list, please post here and let us know how they do !!

 

(PS - Delicious razor clams at Eataly in NYC, at 23rd-24th Streets at Broadway-5th Avenue, a big fun place to go.  An old buddy from LA visited, and he thought it was great.  Look it up.  I can't return the computer expertise, but maybe this tip will make up.)

I have successfully installed all the recommended NET updates described above on my Windows XP Home X86 machine and everything is humming along like a "well oiled machine".  No problems what so ever!!    Thank you all for the important information provided as I did not suspect these updates were not being applied through windows update on a monthly basis.
