My Documents - Cannot Change Target

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

A right-click->properties through explorer yields two tabs only: general, and sharing.

I checked entries in regedit and gpedit and settings restricting the folder from being moved are not selected.

Also, when I displayed the My Doc folder on the desktop, a right-click-->properties yielded "The properties for this item are not availabe"

Try re-registering mydocs.dll.

regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\mydocs.dll

Put the above into a command prompt window or the run box and press enter.

Thank you - worked perfectly. I wonder what caused this issue.

You're welcome.

Could be due to a registry cleaner removing the entries needed for My Documents to function properly. Re-registering that file adds them back.

Seems likely as I used to use CCleaner on the registry.

CCleaner's registry cleaner is very tame so I doubt that it caused it.

I have used CCleaner for years and have never experienced any problems like what happened to xmf.

Cheers and Regards

CCleaner is really tame, I can say it too (I was using Advanced SystemCare before, more aggressive but with no problems too - relevant to its cleaning work at least).
