vinifera
I have certain problem, this started to happen in last 5 weeks periodmy PC starts to turn off for no reason after 2-3 hours of working, and this happens only once per daywhen I turn it on 2nd time, it will run indefinitelyso I suspect more on OS problem than hardwarein control panel/power settings nothing is timered Edited September 18, 2013 by vinifera
CharlotteTheHarlot
Heat is the first problem I would expect. Open 'er up, clean out all the dust with canned air ( use a toothpick to hold each fan from spinning, especially the CPU, so that you can clean the heatsink underneath ). CharlotteTheHarlot
Note that I mean shutdown and then open it up! The toothpick ( or plastic ) holds the fans from turning when blasted with air and allows you to aim the little canned air hose into the blades of the CPU heatsink and get all the junk out. You want somethink wood or non-conductive when poking around the motherboard and other electronics. It shouldn't be sharp though. A Popsicle stick is fine. It's almost definitely heat if you have no power settings set.
vinifera
everything was cleaned 1 month ago and as told, this doesn't happen every 3 hours, but only 1st time after 3 hrs passwhen I turn PC on, then it lasts ... 10 hours
Tripredacus
Check Event Viewer for any errors. Also check and see if any events are logged in the BIOS event log.
vinifera
event viewer doesn't show anything except "unexpected shutdown"as for bios, how do I do that ?

MagicAndre1981
this should be Kernel event ID 41. Post a picture of the eventlog or export the error in a evtx file
dencorso
After about 30 min from boot, open an elevated DOS Box and type AT <Enter>If you get any output different from the default "There are no entries in the list." message, please do post it here. Tripredacus
as for bios, how do I do that ?It may depend on the board. But if you go in the BIOS, you may see a way to see events in "Advanced" if such a section exists. Although I have seen cases where the event logging isn't enabled by default. Also, I think you need to be clear as to what you mean by "shut down." Is it a normal Windows shutdown? As in, does it look like what it would if you chose to do a shut down through Windows? Or is the computer just turning off?If the computer is turning itself off, does it make any different kinds of beeps when you turn it back on? Such as maybe a French Police Siren sound? MagicAndre1981
this also doesn't help. Filter for errors and export all the error as evtx. Try it until you get this working
