Hello,

I am wondering why Windows XP (SP3?) does not show the size of a selected folder in the status bar? I was told that Windows 95 does show the size, but my Windows 98SE installation exhibits the same behavior as XP SP3 (no status displayed).

Is there a way to get it to show? Or is this another instance of Microsoft brutally murdering another useful feature for no apparent reason?

Windows 2000 doesn't show it either. You may want to try Folder Size.

Tomasz86,

Thank you for your reply.

That's really unfortunate. Is there a way to show it without resorting to a program(s)? Not that I don't love SourceForge!

No, at least 98SE doesn't and I don't believe any of them ever did.

edit - could check W95, but not sure if yes/no...

P.S. thx for Folder Size link - got it. ;)

Submix,

I am relieved. Windows 95 does not display the size of folders! This means that it isn't removed in Windows XP!

I am currently running 95 in a virtual machine in VirtualBox.

@UltimateSilence - be so kind as to change title to "Solved" leaving this as an FYI topic plus a nice utility to do said function.
