November 27, 201114 yr Hi I have a 500 GB seagate barracuda HDD 7200.12, Intel Pentium 4, 3.0 Ghz, Mobo G31TMP21. 2 GB RAM. I have Installed win 7 x32 OS. When ever I try to run two or more applications, the PC would hang for some time and return to normal. Some times it would restart randomly. Also my HDD would make a chick sound. Pls help
November 28, 201114 yr Author Thanks Allen. But i have already tested the HDD with seatools and carried out a long test. The long test shows some error in windows file system. Also i want to add that some times my hard drive is not recognised in BIOS.
November 28, 201114 yr Then the only thing you should do is replacing this drive or trying to repair it (but i won't be of any help if you try to repair the hard drive).
November 28, 201114 yr Sounds like an over heating issue. Run the apps and keep an eye on the temp. There are a few freeware temp monitoring apps that monitor hard drives Edited November 28, 201114 yr by CCaveman
November 28, 201114 yr If the long test detects errors, the hard disk is damaged and needs to be replaced
November 29, 201114 yr Author Thanks all of you. Luckily my drive is still under warranty.now I'll have to backup all my data to another drive. Can anyone pls suggest me the best external drive at reasonable cost. Thanks a lot again.
November 30, 201114 yr This isn't exactly the time to get reasonably priced hard drives... but I'd recommend the Seagate GoFlex. Their retail prices haven't gone up as much.
