Where does Windows save the height of the Taskbar?

I've been searching the Internet, and spelunking Win XP SP3 for some days already, but so far have had no sucess.

Windows evidently remembers the height of the taskbar, from one logon to the next, but I just cannot find where it saves that info.

Please enlighten me.

Check the following, which are saved when I start changing around the taskbar (size, position, etc):

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\TaskbarSizeMove

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\Components\0\Position

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\Components\0\CurrentState

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\Components\0\RestoredStateInfo

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\Components\GeneralFlags

Of course decrypting what they mean is another matter entirely.

It's there:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects2
Settings

The value to change the size (at least when the taskbar at the bottom of the screen) in this binary value is the 14th byte in hexadecimal but you need to close/kill explorer before changing it and restart it after.

  • 2 weeks later...

no its not :P

you can even enlarge taskbar more (same happens in win7), if you set your quicklaunch icons to "large" where they increase to 48x48 instead 32x32

thus taskbar gets few more pixels from bottom in height
