GreenSkyRoad Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 (edited) I used partition find and mount to find a Windows XP NTFS partition that I had on one of my older drives.I was very glad when it was able to create a full image of the 80GB partition. However, when I mount the partition in Windows 7 using this same software, I am not able to access or copy many of the files on the disk due to NTFS ownership and permissions.Partition find and mount only allows mounting the image in a "hardware" read only mode for the purposes of data integrity, so I'm not able to modify the permissions on these folders! How can I get my data off of this image? Tripredacus Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Have you tried taking ownership of the files? I had to do that when I took a data drive from my old XP PC and put it in my Win7 PC. It was initially a pain but it is fine now.
jaclaz Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Use another mounting tool (better if on a COPY of that image) that allows R/W operations.Since you are going on a file-based recovery, you can use IMDISK allright:http://www.ltr-data.se/opencode.html/An alternative method should be that of using TESTDISK on the image to just copy the files:http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDiskjaclaz
