opakedragon Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Hi guys i was wondering (since the search keywords for this bring up far too many results) if anyone knows how to update the updating software within xp?I followed this site http://win-x.co.cc/updates.html to slipstream with nlite. i excluded the WGA Notification suppressing update I dont know if that makes a difference. Any help would be appreciated.
Guest Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Can you rephrase your question? I don't understand what you are asking.
opakedragon Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 Can you rephrase your question? I don't understand what you are asking.First off Thanks for responding. Also I have read a few of your posts specifically and they have been very helpful in understanding how to slipstream.Ok so I am trying to slipstream all current updates for windows xp pro, but I am a stickler for details and dont want to just ignore the Windows Genuine Advantage Notification update like the site suggested. So I need to figure out that issue but its not terribly important.I also ran into another problem and I was wondering if anyone knew the answer to it:Microsoft Windows Update is still out of date and I am not sure how to resolve it.I hope this explains it well enough

Guest Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 (edited) OK, so you want Microsoft Update instead of Windows Update? Windows update is NOT out of date but if you have things like Office or Silverlight installed, then you need Microsoft Update. To do this use xable_MicrosoftUpdateEngine-v1.6_addon.cab from here instead of xable_WindowsUpdateEngine-v1.4_addon.cab.As far and that spyware ridden notifications , the most useless piece of software since the universe came into existence , the cause of wars, disease, etc , I'm afraid I don't have an add-on for that. You can try ryanvm.net forum. They probably got one over there.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Genuine_Advantage#Spyware_accusations Edited January 19, 2011 by -X-

Is there a way to get rid of it and still update without a problem?

Guest Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 You wont be able to use Windows/Microsoft update website without WGA Validation.
submix8c Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I meant the addon, could I do something to get rid of WGA and still have a valid copy of xp?Confused (still, after seeing this topic before it came to this)...WGA=Window Genuine Advantage - you went to MS Update and no probs except the "Step Up to Microsoft Update" msgMGA=Microsoft Genuine Advantage - this is for, e.g., Microsoft Office to allow for updates to Other Than Windows. You are not required to use WGA or MGA but will still get critical updates via Automatic Updates, which will include the "nag" MGA Notification Update "Star Icon" on your Taskbar if your Windows is not Genuine.So... What's the problem?(appears that -X- has stated briefly what I'm stating...)
