Phil79
I have recently installed Windows XP Home SP3 on a MDG Netbook using the USB-drive method described on this and other websites. I used the HP USB Format Utility and WinSetupfromUSB, and after some hours of frustration it installed successfully. My issue now is with some of the integrated hardware, specifically the Wireless and audio devices. When I open Control Panel-System-Hardware, they appear like they are USB devices. I have tried downloading and installing drivers for the WLAN (Broadcom I believe, it's a Intel Atom N270 motherboard) but with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if more information/details is needed, I will gladly provide what I can.Phil

Do you have a manufacturer link? How are WLAN and audio are connected internally? Do they use USB bus?Can you name the relating HardwareID's? I doubt issue is caused by installing from USB. Phil79
How does device manager list this devices? Also, here are the devices listed in Everest, a program i used to get some specs from the netbook. This is the one thats confusing me...Which MDG Netbook do you use at all? It's a MDG Mini Rugged NetbookDo you have a manufacturer link?Being that it's an older model, there doesn't seem to be a page on the MDG site. How are WLAN and audio are connected internally? Do they use USB bus?Can you name the relating HardwareID's?Not sure about these ones, if you'd point me to where I can get that info for you, I'd gladly post it.Phil
jaclaz
It's a MDG Mini Rugged NetbookIt's that the specific model? If not, post EXACT name/model, maybe something can be found nonetheless about it.If we are talking of this MDG:http://www.mdg.ca/content/support/it seems like it has not even *a* driver or Bios or technical related stuff download page. They do have a lousy Word document :http://www.mdg.ca/content/support/pdf/supp_download_web_page.doc that tells you to go to Intel site:http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/gendrive.htmwhere the page is obviously a 404 and with this warning:Warning:MDG Computers Canada recommends that you have your system serviced by a professional technician either at one of our stores or by sending your system back to the head office. If you choose to continue the process, be advised that MDG Computers Canada cannot be liable for any loss or damage that may occur. They seem a lot more like a financial/commercial company than a computer manufacturer. It seems like they re-re-brand some products and sell them in Canada:http://laptopadvisor.blogspot.com/2009/11/intel-classmate-goes-on-sale-as-mdg.htmlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classmate_PCIs this the one you have?http://www.mdg.ca/mini/According to Wikipedia page above it is actually an "Intel Clamshell second generation".Can you try running USBview or SIV:http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=12845and post their screenshots?(from the everest screenshot it seems like more things than usual are connected to the USB bus)If you can only run device manager, please selest the view "by connection" and open the relevant (USB) part of the tree.jaclaz Edited October 29, 2010 by jaclaz
Phil79
jaclaz,You're right, MDG basically re-brands computers here in Canada, there is very little support/specs for them online. I believe this one is a 2nd generation Intel Clamshell netbook. There is a model number on the bottom, E09E16.Here is a screen from USBView....and Device Manager, List by Connection...Phil

I believe this one is a 2nd generation Intel Clamshell netbook. There is a model number on the bottom, E09E16...and since Intel re-brands computers as well, what you probably have is a MPC E09E16http://www.blisscomputers.net/mpc-e09e16-laptop-lcd-screen-8-9-wsvga-glossy-led.aspxGuess why I used the "re-re-brand" term to describe MDG activities? MPC is dead :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPC_Corporationhttp://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1050188/mpc-computers-closingBut still alive in the memory of the Wayback Machine :http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.mpccorp.com/Here may seem like a nice place to have a look/ask for help:http://www.mpcdrivers.com/http://mpctechsupport.com/jaclaz
Phil79
Success! Found a compatible driver after using SIV to identify the vendor for the Wireless adapter (Micro Star International). Thanks so much for the help jaclaz! Phil
cdob
WLAN is connected at USB bus internally. Hence the USB list.LAN and Audio are connected to PCI bus.ICH7 reminds to Intel 945 chipset. Get relating chipset and graphics drivers. Not sure about these ones, if you'd point me to where I can get that info for you, I'd gladly post it.Open device manager, select hardware. View details, scroll to HardwareID.Search this HardwareID on the net. Edited October 29, 2010 by cdob
