If you go to Dell's website and look up the manual for the notebook model, you may find there is a jumper to use.

For what I know about those Dell notebooks: you need to replace or reprogram a 8 pin CMOS on the motherboard, this requires removing the CMOS as it's soldered onto the motherboard. On eBay they sell those chips if you don't have the program or CMOS programmer.

If you registered the laptop, you can call Dell support and they'll be able to reset the password for you.
