kdsg Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 I have the NTFS4DOS at startup, before loading windows to take reading and writing NTFSwindows 98 is on a FAT32 partition, but does not start once loaded NTFS4DOS
submix8c Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 ? why are you using that version ???This topic... (and particularly post#21 which point to a perfectly functional Windows interface).Use the above instead...HTH
kdsg Posted January 5, 2010 Author Posted January 5, 2010 I'm not looking paragon NTFS for windows 98I want one for MS-DOS/Windows that will load before starting Windows (not a VXD)NTFS-3G may be charged before loading windows ? or should use omnifs.exe from symantec Ghost ?look the same driver for DOS/WINDOWS
submix8c Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I'm gonna go out on a limb here and make two assumptions -- You want to load an NTFS-accessing program before Windows starts up, is this true?- You are using the Avira Personal v1.9, correct?Have you looked at the PDF documentation? You may be "hanging" startup by your methods. Please attach your Autoexec.BAT and Config.Sys to your next post, as these are the only two ways it can possibly be run (AFAICT). You need to start the COMMAND.COM as the "shell" (as stated in the PDF, also AFAICT).Perhaps I misunderstand your intent. Why load a DOS version at all just to say that Windows doesn't start? Is there a particular reason to have a DOS-mode one? Are you trying to access an NTFS partition before Windows loads? I could download/test and "make it work" if I knew the intent and info as to "what you did"/"how you did it" that's stopping it from "working" and what the exact "symptoms" are. Could be any number of reasons for "not working". Otherwise, I'm at a loss...I have the NTFS4DOS at startup, before loading windows to take reading and writing NTFSwindows 98 is on a FAT32 partition, but does not start once loaded NTFS4DOSTo paraphrase another member, Crystal Ball not working so well today...
kdsg Posted January 6, 2010 Author Posted January 6, 2010 I use NTFS4DOS extracted from hiren's bootcdbut I do not simply seek to be compatible with windowsis very useful for example if I have installed MS-DOS programs on an NTFS partitiondesire to replace many windows drivers for ms-dos driversis ideal for Restart in MS-DOS mode, Windows is an application of MS-DOSan example in autoexec.bat:c:\ntfsdriver.execd c:\windowsc:\windows\win.com
jaclaz Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I use NTFS4DOS extracted from hiren's bootcdWrong approach.hiren's boot CD is considered WAREZ. Get the real ntfs4dos from its homepage and read the docs:http://www.free-av.com/en/tools/11/avira_n...s_personal.htmljaclaz
submix8c Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 1 - Do not, repeat do not, mention that CD again! It's considered "warez" (read the rules and consider this a non-Moderator warning)2 - You appear to be referring to the Avira Personal (which is fine)Have you by chance tried what I suggested! Google on "ntfs4dos" and the very first thing that shows is (guess what?)... RTM, ok??? The official download FULL PACKAGE is there and the PDF document on how-to-use. Go from there...(jaclaz beat me to it...)
kdsg Posted January 6, 2010 Author Posted January 6, 2010 I'm using Avira NTFS4DOS PersonalI'm testing in a virtual machinehowever NTFS4DOS once loaded, then load windows and stands as hangingwhich I recommend for use with Windows? someone who has tried several drivers NTFS
submix8c Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 (edited) Page 17 of the PDF file indicate that you can't run this from AUTOEXEC.BAT when using Win98/ME. Page 16 "implies" that it can be run from COMFIG.SYS, but it only specifies when booting to Pure DOS.So if you want both Win98 and a reboot to DOS for access, it appears that you will have to use two types - the Paragon version for Win98 and the Avira version for "raw DOS".When I get a chance, I'll try it (unless you can beat me to it). It'll require an understanding of the boot process, mind you (only one can be running at a time)...(You did RTFM, right? I still don't understand the point of pre-loading...)edit - BTW, you misunderstand what these things are... they are not drivers... Edited January 6, 2010 by submix8c
