beatmaster
Short Question:How can I exchange the bootscreen in Windows 7? Is this possible? The Bootscreen information are in bootres.dll, however these are present only as HEX code.I have found this Thread (only in german): http://www.windows-7-forum.net/beatmaster
MagicAndre1981
they are not present as hex. Export the data and you'll see that the file is a WIM file. You can use 7zip to extract the bmp which contains the boot animation.

nice_guy75
Read all the posts of this thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=140340
EagleWing
That thread has only to do with the logon screens not the boot screens. Big difference.
MagicAndre1981
it can be done with this tool:http://www.coderforlife.com/projects/win7boot/The idea, is to hack the bootres.dll, sign it again and let Windows think "yes, this file is valid".But, on a German Windows, it doesn't work. RBCC
I tried this and it didn't work!(1) I just tried to change the text on the bootscreen and it reverted back to Vista's bootscreen.(2) I doesn't find my animation pictures on the hard disk or the animation itself in bmps or png'sWhat have I done wrong? joakim
It is possible for both 32-bit and 64-bit. I know because I have done it myself on both architectures.Read about the details behind that tool, where it's all discussed, in this thread;http://www.sevenforums.com/customization/106861-how-change-boot-animation-windows-7-a.html Joakim
MagicAndre1981
this is the same tool, I posted I've tried it several times and it doesn't work.
joakim
The point is me and him is discussing the details in that thread, but he missed a few important details. That's why it currently does not completely work (the animation part aparently now works). As soon as he's sorted everything out, it will work. And it will be a really great app when finished. If you do it manually like I've done, you should get it running. Just follow the tutuorial, including some extra information in the following posts. The real challenge is how to achieve it without testsigning on..Joakim
