Do you mind uploading your msvcrt.dll for testing purposes ?

It is version 6.1.9848.0 and I have never seen this version before. I have 6.1.9847.0 installed on my super stable system.

Version 6.1.9848.0 is at MDGx's for some time, already... its the unofficial Q932590 for 9x/ME ;)

Just to bring this thread to a close, I wanted to say that the thing that fixed this issue for me was removing emm386 from config.sys - which strikes me as odd, but whatever: it worked.
