Recommended Posts

Hello

I need to make a multiboot usb for XP, VIsta, Seven

I am not sure whether LiveXP or WinPE to use as environment?

Please tell me which i should use.

And can XP, Vista, Seven be on same usb?

Sorry for my basic question.

LiveXP is a kind of PE 1.x build (XP based) and needs some files from Server 2003 or SP1 or R2 (NOT "gold", NOT SP2) to be able to boot from an image through RAMDISK.

If you have available a PE 2.x build (Vista/Server 2008 based), like "standard" WAIK WinPE or VistyaPE you can use a .iso image "directly" (i.e. with no need for "special" additional files)

You may also used a PE 3.x (Windows 7 based), though obviously experiences on this latter Environment are still scarce/preliminary:

As well something that needs experimenting but may ultimately become the "better" solution, could be a "full" Windows 7 installed to a .vhd virtual disk image:

Sure :) that's the whole point of booting to a 32 bit OS and install FROM it running.

Thanks very much Jaclaz !

I have another problem from quote below

The advantage of the present technique is that there are no changes needed in the BIOS Setting.

Booting for XP Setup occurs all the time as normal from the C-Install Drive if you Install on C-Drive.

Thus the USB-stick does not need to be bootable and it is not needed that the motherboard supports booting from USB.

In the case of total computer disaster it can still be handy to boot with LiveXP from USB-drive.

I can setup XP by this method but

I must boot from USB first

and i still have to change the BIOS setting to boot from USB

everytime if i need to run XP-Setup program to

install WinPE2.1 to C-drive and copy XP setup to C-drive

While the author tell that this method has advantage not neccessary to touch the BIOS.

Please explain me how to do it.

And from my thought, for old computer that have no USB boot option.

Should i burn Winpe with U_XP_set to CD or else to run WinPE from that

then point the XP setup to USB disk that i make from the program.

Still i don't know how to burn WinPE with U_XP_set to CD...

I will try add U_XP_set to Winpe with ultraISO and burn them to CD first.

and i will let you know

===================================

[updated]

I am not success to run U_XP_Set

I add U_XP_Set to WinPE.iso in ultraiso

AndU_XP_Set is unable to run after i boot from CD

However the WinPE works OK from the cd burnwith ultraiso

I got another problem, the XP i installed did not install the language as it should that i set from nlite

How can i disable usb_boot_setup to not ask me for unattend, i choose cancel option but it still override my language setting

Thank you in advance

Freshbie,

I split the topic so that we can discuss your problems at length without "polluting" the main thread.

I cannot make head or tail of your posts, you seem to me like you are trying to do many (too much) different things all together, trying to introduce variations before having got "full" familiarity with the methods and tools.

None of the proposed solutions is "universal", each one has it's own "better" and "worse" features, describe WHAT you are trying to do (just ONE thing), then, oncce we will find a way to do THAT thing, try another one, and so on.

For motherboards that do not support USB booting in their BIOS a generally working solution is using a "kicker" floppy or CD with PLoP:

Thanks Jaclaz for start thread for me.

To create a bootable cd for WinPE.iso integrate with U_XP_Set

I found a mistake i made and got correct it now. It is i burn the edited ISO without saving it first.

First, i have to open WinPE.iso and add folder of U_XP_set to the ISO

Then save it as a new ISO and burn to CD.

Finally, getting a bootable WinPE with U_XP_set to run XP set up
