There's about a billion different programs, and none of them is the absolute best at everything.

Some are great at non-linear editing, special effects and the like, and full of advanced features.

Others are just 1-click converters that are meant to be easy to use for people who have no idea what they're doing.

Depends what you want.

i know theres a billion thats y its so hard to find a good 1

nothing too fancy just want to convert from 1 file to another

and edit with the basic cut, trim export audio function

Then again, that still depends what formats you're going to/from (DVD format, mpeg1/2/4 asp or avc files, NTSC or PAL, etc)

The best all-around converter that I've found is TotalVideoConverter. It has limited editing ability and the timeline isn't 100% on the ball. But for batch conversions it works fine. Its not free tho. I also have another video editor that came with a WinTV card, but I don't remember what it was called. Or an old version of Primere LE that came with something, I think Iomega's old media thing... I guess this doesn't help much lol.
