jeroen__online
Hi all, my drive stopped being recognized by my P5Q-E's BIOS yesterday after a regular reboot, here's my drive info.SerialNumber:Model:P/N:Firmware:DateCode:SiteCode:PurchaseDate:FailedDate:USername===========================================================9QM7VZBP:ST3500320AS:9BX154-303:SD15:09146:KRATSG:Oct2008:24Dec2008:poolcarpet9QM6X90B:ST3500320AS:9BX154-303:SD15:09115:KRATSG:Oct2008:28Dec2008:DaftMule9QM6W2JE:ST3500320AS: - :SD15: - : - :5Dec2008:19Dec2008:DerSnoezie9QM4G4PK:ST3500320AS:9BX154-303:SD15:08503:KRATSG:Aug2008:Nov2008:dskbrk9QM3RWHJ:ST3500320AS:9BX154-568:SD81:08464:KRATSG:Aug2008:23Dec2008:ToKuRo 9QM7KSQJ:ST3500320AS:9BX154-501:SD15:09134:KRATSG:28Oct2008:07Jan2009:jeroen__onlineA different P/N, but no major deviations. I'm really hoping fatlip and pichi (and/or others?) can find the right commands to restore the drives, I think you guys are doing a fantastic job and I believe a lot of people are looking forward to a solution! icefloe01
I found an explanation of the date codes. It's slightly confusing because they use a fiscal year instead of a calendar year. That's why you see an 09 on drives bought in '08. Text of the site where I found it:================mail from Seagate=========================== Dear Mr. Vidonne, Your interpretation of the Date Code is absolutely correct. We have also mentioned a few examples for your reference. Please find the same mentioned below :- Examples: 0051 means manufactured on the 1st day of the 5th week of the fiscal year 1999-2000 05131 means manufactured on the 1st day of the 13th week of the fiscal year 2004-05 (on the 25th of September 2004) Please Note: The Fiscal Year begins on the 1st Saturday of July and the week runs from Saturday to Friday. poolcarpet
Based on this, it means my hard disk was manufactured around :09146 - 6th day of 14th week, which means around 16 or 17 Oct 2008.But I purchased in on 28 October. It only takes 11 days for the hard disk to ship from Thailand factory to the store in Malaysia? Granted that Thailand and Malaysia are neighbouring countries, but still..... 11 days is pretty fast And it looks like I hold the unwanted record of the latest manufactured drive to fail I found an explanation of the date codes. Yeah, that's fast but as far as my 1TB drives are concerned, they were selling out about as fast as suppliers could get them in. So Seagate was probably packing them onto pallets as fast as possible....
quattro150
3 Asus's so far in the lot... doesn't look good... mine's using ICH10 southbridge... I believe all P5Q series are using that...shucks... could it be an Intel chipset problem then? But then again I also heard of people using nVidia chipsets facing this problem, so maybe not... Ruddrage
I think this is a bug with the HDD firmware not the motherboad as mine is a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS4.
icefloe01
I just found this:Seagate date code calculator. You have to create a login to get it. Once you extract the files from the zip file, you have to drill down to this point:SeagateDateCode\SeagateDateCode\SeagateDateCode\bin\Debugto find the executeable.Nevermind, I just did a megaupload:http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HS5ZEL4O
DerSnoezie
Hey poolcarpet, I've just noticed that your most recent posts on the official seagate forum (asking other people with similar problems to come over to this forum) have been deleted..I guess your initiative for gathering as many data as possible on the failures has struck a sensitive chord Edited January 8, 2009 by DerSnoezie

quattro150
Probably is, but I still can't help to wonder if something in the chipset is causing this problem to crop up. By the way, your GIGABYTE EP45 uses ICH10 as well... may not be an ASUS problem, but maybe an Intel problem still...I think this is a bug with the HDD firmware not the motherboad as mine is a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS4.
