poolcarpet Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Timebomb? Interesting conspiracy theory. Mine was purchased in Oct 2008, and failed on 24 December 2008. What about the rest??
sarahcoco Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Purchased in oct 2008, down on 20 december 2008.
Ruddrage Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I bought mine on the 25th August 2008 and it died 4th January 2009
Death_Angel Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 (edited) Hmm... so it happens in Nov 08, Dec 08, Jan 09, anymore? Edited January 8, 2009 by Death_Angel
icefloe01 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 (edited) I purchased mine from ZZF on Sep 15th. Can't remember what day I got and installed them, but right now they are working and I'm trying to come up with the money to get just enough storage to create backups of the data on the drives. 3TB worth of space but probably only 500 to 600GB total used. Ugh.I finally got more info from Seagate last night. SD15 is the most recent firmware for these drives and there is no knowledge of anyone working on a new firmware for any reason at all. The guy I talked to even works in the same office with AllenM (Seagate forum mod.) and said he hasn't mentioned anything about any unusual drive problems that need to be addressed. In other words, Seagate has been made aware of the problem, yet they are unaware of the problem. ***scratches head trying to figure out to justify to the wife spending more money on the computer***P.S. Oh yeah, he had to put me on hold when I mentioned that Salvation Data already has a fix.... Edited January 8, 2009 by icefloe01
poolcarpet Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Why don't we list down and see if we can spot a pattern? I tried starting this back in Sh*tgate forums but they deleted my post!Let's see if we can spot any pattern here......SerialNumber:Model:P/N:Firmware:DateCode:SiteCode:PurchaseDate:FailedDate:USername===========================================================9QM7VZBP:ST3500320AS:9BX154-303:SD15:09146:KRATSG:Oct2008:24Dec2008:poolcarpet--> copy and paste this entire table and add in your entry here
DaftMule Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 (edited) Thanks to poolcarpet for pointing me here :-) Not sure I'm technically savvy enough to try and resurrect my drive but I'm happy to post info that may help.As I posted on the Seagate forum, thankfully I had an image on my old Maxtor drive from when I moved everything across to the 'cuda. Also had backups of data to an external drive. Only lost some recent email history really. My main worry in all this though is sending my drive back to Seagate with just about everything required for someone to steal my identity on it. Their FAQ says it will be wiped according to their "standard repair process" but are they really going to go to the bother of trying to access/wipe a drive that has died in this manner?SerialNumber:Model:P/N:Firmware:DateCode:SiteCode:PurchaseDate:FailedDate:USername===========================================================9QM7VZBP:ST3500320AS:9BX154-303:SD15:09146:KRATSG:Oct2008:24Dec2008:poolcarpet9QM6X90B:ST3500320AS:9BX154-303:SD15:09115:KRATSG:Oct2008:28Dec2008:DaftMule Edited January 8, 2009 by DaftMule
quattro150 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I'm at a point where I wanna try some serial commands out, but afraid of wiping my precious data... shucks... I'm considering going out to buy another 7200.11 500GB just to experiment with the commands. And if I brick it, I'll just RMA it and get a new one. Just tell 'em that the drive was like that from the get go. Within a few days I'm sure they'll just give me a 1:1 replacement... hahaha! Question is, how many times are they gonna let me do it? And once I'm through with it, that is assuming I really get to pull the data off, I'll zero fill the old drive, RMA it, and end up with 2 500GB drives, in which I'll put it in a RAID0 config and get up to 200MB/s transfer rate, which I'll just use as a temp drive for my vid and gfx editing, and oh yeah, games and unimportant stuff... sound like a good plan?Or else, anybody have a drive with the LBA 0 problem, in which you don't want the data anymore? Or even a working spare drive? If you can't already tell, I'm desperate... Heh...
poolcarpet Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Anyone knows how to decode date code and site code? e.g. 09146 KRATSG

poolcarpet Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Keep it going! We have 3 Dec failures, it will be really really suspicious if all our failures are within the same time frame....Posted by icefloe01:"I purchased mine from ZZF on Sep 15th.
