Bug found in nLite 1.4.9.1

Hello, just wanted to report this bug. Selecting clear type as a default method of fonts softening doesn't work at all.

Hello malcomx,

It might be something on your end, perhaos a setting. I just installed an nLited version of XP and when I go to Display Properties > Appearances > Effects, Cleartype is already enabled on my system.

When using nLite in the "Tweaks" section, I'll assume that you enabled the "Smooth edges of screenfonts" option to "Cleartype" ?

If you did, then I'm all out of ideas...

If you have nLited the same source more than once, then that could be the problem. Always use a fresh copy of the source CD files/Folders.

Right click the DeskTop, then Properties-Appearance-Advanced-pull down Item list to Icon and set the size to your desire. Don't know how to do this in nLite.

I have found that the thing with icon sizes and such is just a total biatch. Because there's so many variables to concern yourself with. It is also dependent whether or not one uses classic or new start menu style and also what font size and what fonts being used also. Then these things vary dependeing on what one's preference may be.

The quick solution is best to use a theme, however, not even that will cover all bases. And with a multi user computer, the scenario naturally rises in magnitude. also one needs to take into consideration if one uses different hardware profiles, which i've seen is popular in some communities.

The good solution then naturally requires a bit more work.One needs a import of

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams] and its sub folders

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system] for login screen messages etc

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList] for accounts visible on login and so forth.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ComDlg32] for nobackbutton tweak, and places tweaks.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] for setting cleartype there and much more.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Appearance\Schemes] for adding or deleting classic themes etc.

And that's just a few of the entries one needs to handle and configure if one really want to have the exact same look all over the place.

One also needs to look into the s-18 s-19 s-20 user accounts to do this perfect, either delete or add etc, and of course default user for setting the standards.

So as one can see, i think, getting all these small things look good, it's going to require quite a lot of effort.

The good thing about that, is that if one does it right the first time around, one only import that work during windows install, and it gets set to perfection everytime, just the way you want things to be.

Hi everybody, i want to report an error ocurred when i was traying to add security patches to my windows (i come from spain, sorry about my english, cos is a bit bad ). I select the option "hotfixes,add-ons and updates packs", but when i add al security patches from microsoft web (since service pack 3 - 06/05/08 from today - 22/10/08), some of them didnt work and i show a message of error. This are the ones that generate error: windows-kb890830-v2.3.exe , WindowsXP-KB944338-v2-x86-ESN.exe , WindowsXP-KB945553-x86-ESN.exe , WindowsXP-KB950749-x86-ESN.exe.

If somebody else has already inform fo this bugs or errors, excuse me, i am new here. In that case, can anybody show me the threat or a link to show how to solve this problem?

When running nlite, the times on the Presets page are incorrect for PM times.

i.e. '08/10/23 - 10:19:48 should read '08/10/23 - 22:19:48

Problem still occurs, I am trying with clean XP SP3, and will add IE8 WMP11 and it's hotfixes, see what comes out of this.

I had to add the next registry tweak in order to enable Clear Type:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"MouseTrails"=dword:00000002

I did a monitor session with Regmon and that was the unique key value that was updated (appart of the tipical) when I switched between standard and clear-type antialiasing fonts. For unattended, I included the tweak in a .reg file called from $OEM$\cmdlines.txt (to be applied to all user).

Clear Type enable always worked for me with nLite until my last attempt, when I integrated the new IE7 hotfixes.
