hello

I wonder which would be more responsive and run faster:

1) XP SP2

2) XP SP3

3) Vista

(all 32bit, since I cannot run 64bit)

this is my notebook:

(if any additional info is needed I will post it)

thanks

SP3. Why is your notebook underclocked (798 MHz)?

Notebook power management, Intel SpeedStep will lower the clock speed to save power.

Power settings in Control Panel ;) Set to Always On and disable Hybernation ;)

wow thanks!!!

I can't believe I was using the half power of my notebook for all this time!!!

No problem :) They should explain that on laptops when you buy them! Mind you im sure they do in the manuals! Just i never read them haha! :thumbup

Manual who reads the manual. Wait when was the last time you SAW a manual. And I mean printed material that came with the system. Not the electronic documentation.

That is a very good point - i cant remember the last time i had seen one with a new machine! in fact honestly thinking about it - i dont think i have ever seen one for a laptop except a small step-by-step one!

Err, no you are not, leave EIST on, so leave it as it is or your battery will work half the time :sneaky:.

When the CPU load goes up, your CPU speed goes up too!

I would use Vista on that laptop, and I think it already came with it shipped.

EDIT: XP SP3, I thought it was a "core2" but it´s a "core", so 32bit only OS.

Vista x86 is fine as an OS, although I would run XP SP3 on that machine simply because it was originally designed for XP, and likely not be able to run Aero at all with the lower-end graphics chipset I'd expect in there.
