Micropocalypse Posted February 14, 2002 Posted February 14, 2002 disable za/if you have nis(norton inet security) installed, disable it, its icon, everythin about it, its pure evil.

Drewdatrip Posted February 14, 2002 Posted February 14, 2002 Most likely you have a router, cable/DSL modem that is acting as a firewall, you must disable the firewall throu the seetings or the ip address designated to one of these particular pieces of hardware.Goodluck-Drew
renakuajo Posted February 14, 2002 Author Posted February 14, 2002 ****!!!That is the first thing that makes sense to me so far....the problem is how i do that????
Drewdatrip Posted February 14, 2002 Posted February 14, 2002 ****!!!That is the first thing that makes sense to me so far....the problem is how i do that???? [/quote:6135e1fdcb]Well first off what particular piece of hardware do you have? once you know that, then you can find out the make and model, then look thru the manuel, or the online help from the manufacture. Then you can figure out how to fidle with the settings, some hub/routers have built in firewalles that can be adjusted thru a designated ip or just thru software. In addition a cable/dsl modem can have a firewall aswell, its just a matter of finding directions for your particular type.GoodLuck-Drew
renakuajo Posted February 14, 2002 Author Posted February 14, 2002 i have a router from zyxelPrestige 642MEOn the manual there is no sh*t that can help me, i email support anf they told me to do a change to open the ports i need it. so i did it and ask a friend send me a file trhu msn and yes he could send the file.....but i try to send him a file and still i cant. than i ask other friend to send me a file via ICQ w/ no luck
LS_Dragons Posted February 14, 2002 Posted February 14, 2002 .... in another thread? By double posting, you are going to get the same series of questions and answers you already got. It is either your hardware router, firewall, or your administrator priveleges. In order to send files - messenger (or any other client) needs to be able to broadcast it's IP address. A router is translating that IP address into a local address. Try studying up on how routers and NAT etc work and you will have your answer........LS
renakuajo Posted February 14, 2002 Author Posted February 14, 2002 yea i post in that thread too!!! but so far i have received a better response and ideas here
BAH Posted February 14, 2002 Posted February 14, 2002 I have this problem if i dont put the ip of my local machine using icq or MSN into the DMZ in my lynksys router. You may find you have a similar setting
Drewdatrip Posted February 14, 2002 Posted February 14, 2002 Sending and receving files somtimes go thru different ports, trt finding out from the manufactuer what port is what and how you can go about opening/closing these ports. I mentioned an IP for the router, my frend had a sililar problem to yours, but he could modify the settings thru the ip address. You migh want to find that out as well.-Drew
renakuajo Posted February 14, 2002 Author Posted February 14, 2002 you know the funnything is this:i call my isp to ask them cause the they supply the router I use. Also i send an email to the manufacturer of the router. The manufacturer told me to go to telnet and acccess the router settings and enter to an specify setting to enter my ip. so i did it and now i can receive files (so far) only using msn, but cant send. So i send another email but they havent reply yet. So i call tech support to my isp and told them what i did and what i have acomplish so far....and you know what? Nobody in the office knows the settings (in the router) I was talkin about just one guy is allowed to acess that area and he wasnt there!!!!!!!!!!! Can you believe this?????:blueteam :nerves
renakuajo Posted February 14, 2002 Author Posted February 14, 2002 this is weird!! after talkin again to tech supp, i change some settings on the routernow i can send files via icq but no receive them......i can receive files in msn but cant send
