Its strange I would have thought Winxp SP3 slipstreamed with the nLite latest IE7 cab integration wouldn't still have anymore updates from the ms update site ..but on first boot passing WGA check and then checking to see if there are any updates.. its telling me that IE7 has an update

weirdest thing is that if I try install this update, it won't install it.. also tried download the closest match the the following download page

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms08-024.mspx - the Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows XP Service Pack 3

and that doesn't install..pretty sure its the same file the autoupdate was trying to install aswel

any solutions?

I tried to install the same update today. I tried it through Windows update and also tried to download it and install it that way. It failed either way. I'm thinking that this update is for SP2 and earlier versions of SP3 and not for the RTM version of SP3. It's possible that this update is already in the RTM version of SP3 and Microsoft update site is detecting the RTM version as an earlier version.

oh well glad I'm not the only one having trouble with it

although a confirmation on it already being installed?

I've encoutered the same problem and checking the KB947864-IE7.log reveals the following:

AnalyzeForBranching: files installed on target workstation are from sp3bta branch which is incompatible with sp2gdr branch

..

..

..

KB947864 Setup encountered an error: Files from the package are incompatible with files on your system.

I'm not sure whether this is a Microsoft issue with this update, or an nLite issue.

I'm using the SP3 RTM, so there should be nothing related to sp3 beta. (Unless MS screwed up...)

I have the same problem. But if I install the os with a sp3 slipstreamed xp iso (without ie7) and then install ie7 manually, wu finds and installs KB947864 without any errors. So is there something wrong with integrating ie7?

I used : OnePiece's Internet Explorer 7 True Addon w/updates from WinCert.Net on a Virtual Machine and don't have any updates for IE7.

The machine I'm on now is using SP3 v5503 and nothing is integrated (from original Dell CD) and I got this update thru automatic updates and it worked ok. I noticed my custom mshtml.dll was restored to the original after the update. Checked the version #'s and my VM had the highest so...

If you're having trouble, did it create a .log file in the \Windows\ folder (usually KB947864-IE7.log) that we can look at?

A pretty simple solution which worked for me, is to just slipstream the hotfix KB947864 along with your XP slipstreamed image.

You can just download it from here and add it as a hotfix in nlite before you create and burn your image.

After installing the new image created like this, you can without problem use the update function and you won't get the message of

the failed installation anymore (because it was already succesfully installed).

I hope this helps you....

I slipstreamed IE7 into my XP SP3 CD using nLite. I also had the same error where it would not install KB947864 saying that the file versions were incompatible. I went to microsoft.com and downloaded IE7 again (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=9AE91EBE-3385-447C-8A30-081805B2F90B&displaylang=en) and after reinstalling and rebooting, it solved the problem. Hope this helps others as it worked for me.

That appeared to work for me as well even though the installation reported that installing updates wasn't completely successful. It no longer shows that update as available, anyway. Thanks, BHall.
