    A pretty simple solution which worked for me, is to just slipstream the hotfix KB947864 along with your XP slipstreamed image. You can just download it from here and add it as a hotfix in nlite before you create and burn your image. After installing the new image created like this, you can without problem use the update function and you won't get the message of the failed installation anymore (because it was already succesfully installed). I hope this helps you....
