Win Server 2008 ... How to Disable Shutdown Event Tracker ?

Featured Replies

Have had a chance to play and Vlite Server 2008.

Its nice - quicker than Vista SP1 and around [at least] a %15 smaller ram footprint.

One annoying thing though.

I did a full Vlite strip and now I cant disable the Shutdown Event Tracker ?

I cant access MMC.

Gpedit.msc doesnt have the usual Disable Option.

So, is there a direct Registry Setting I can modify / install or a Command Prompt I can run to get rid of it ?

Mny thx.

Ben

Thanks Bilar but as I said in my post, I cant use or access the ususal MMC or Group Policy or Gpedit parameters because I've presumably Vlite'ed out the primary service or component .............. so .............. what I am looking for is a Registy mod or Command line prompt that will do same.

Anyone have an answer ?

Hi aviv00

No error as such.

Normally to disable the S.E.T, you do it either through gpedit.msc or MMC.

With gpedit.msc, the "disable" option simply does not exist under Admin Templates / System - similalry if I try to go back door through the MMC.

Obviously I've removed a component and/or service which has made this dissappear.

Any thoughts ?

I'm kind of hoping there is a registry edit and/or command line to do same, but cant find one.

Ben

I got this from another site and it appears to be for Windows 2003, don't know if it will work in 2008, use at your own risk.

To disable shutdown tracker:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Reliability]
"TimeStampInterval"=dword:00000000
"ShutdownReasonUI"=dword:00000000
"ShutdownDoStateSnapshot"=dword:00000002

To enable shutdown tracker:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Reliability]
"TimeStampInterval"=dword:00000000
"ShutdownReasonUI"=dword:00000001
"ShutdownDoStateSnapshot"=dword:00000002
