March 10, 200818 yr Mt wife uses 98SE on her computer and recently I bought her an external drive for storing files and folders on, but it wasn't recognised by her computer, apparently it couldn't find the driver for the external drive. No matter where I have looked I can't find that was 98 compatible......any suggestions at to where I could find one?
March 11, 200818 yr Do you have the Native USB Storage Driver installed?http://www.msfn.org/board/Maximum-Decim-Na...ers-t43605.html
March 11, 200818 yr Author No, no I haven't but that's for USB2.0 isn't it? will it work if she only has USB 1 fitted on her PC?
March 11, 200818 yr What brand/model type of external is it?I know Western Digital has different drivers for USB-1 and USB-2. j7n, is the native USB driver for external h.d.'s too?, It says ..." support USB flash drives, digital photo and videocameras and other similar devices." If yes it's not clear to me since it says flash drives. Edited March 11, 200818 yr by bootless
March 12, 200818 yr The driver is for "storage" devices. It just happen that Flash memory is most useful portable storage technology at this time.I've used this driver with a HDD enclosure and on old USB 1 computers (with flash). If Windows XP can work without a driver with your hard disk, there is a great chance this driver will enable Win98 to do the same.

Check mark where it says " Removable ", then add a drive letter, and restart your computer and it should show up.Note: There is a slight delay/pause before you can access your external drive everything you click on it.
