So here is the list of things which were kept by razormoon and Roma; and removed by me. I've put a "--" in front of the components which I think won't cause this problem. Correct me if I'm wrong Lego.

LOL.... did you leave anything in it at all?

Ok, isn't it so that Vista creates a restore point before the removal of items? Could it be this creating an error since you did not include System Restore in your installation? In know other, 3rd party software does sometimes create a restore point. If it is not possible because that function is not available, it just continues with installing. But Vista own trigger might error if System Restore is not available. Just a theory...

may be....I'll check that as soon as I reach home.

EDIT: OK after completely removing Accessories, Drivers, Games and Languages everything is working fine. I'll keep on testing it with more removals and as soon as I Zero-in on the problem I'll post here.

Finally I found out that removal of "Remote Desktop and Assistance" is causing this problem. So half work of problem solving is done...by identifing the cause. Fixing it, I guess, is only in hands of Nuhi. Lets see wheather this fix makes its way into Vlite's next relese or not.

Bye

Well I am facing the same prob witth SP1 ISO.

But I did not remove Remote Desktop.

Here is what I removed:

- Speech support

- Tablet PC

- Chinese/Japanese/Korean

- all printer drivers but generic printer and HP printers

- Music and Video samples

- Inbox games

- Manual Install (Setup.exe)

- Tablet PC

- Windows Easy Transfer

Sorry my Lastsession.ini is at home where I have currently no internet.

Please note I did not touch any service/tweak either in vlite or after Vista installation.

I am a bit worried about having removed "manual install" actually. It may linked with the prob. of uninstalling Windows features on/off.

A safe way would be to remove only languages and some drivers (not storage!) but leave tablet PC and manual install in the vlite image. A pity than MS does not propose the removal of such completely useless components for 95% of users...

By the way Vista SP1 is faster than XP SP2 on my machine (at least with PCmark 05: it reports 7490 for Vista against 7440 for XP):

Asus P5LD2 (Intel 945P)

Core 2 Duo E6400 @ 2.67 Ghz

2 GB DDR2 Corsair XMS PC675 @ 4-4-4-12

Samsung Spinpoint 500 GB 16Mo cache

Hitachi 160 GB (2nd hard disk for backup/pagefile/temp)

MSI Geforce 7900 GTX 512 Mb

Hmmm...Same removals doesn't give any problems to me. And I guess none of them will ever cause such problem. Did u use the orignal preintegrated SP1 from MS?

I spent about 2 hours on it yesterday. I create several ISOs with various removals and installed them with Virtual PC 2007. It seems that vLite 1.1.1 is not fully compatible with Vista SP1 (I have the preintegrated DVD ISO). If I remove anything (even a single optional feature) in the 'System' section, it breaks the 'Windows feature on/off'.

My latest Vlite image is fine, I did not remove much but I think that is the safe way until vLite is fully compatible with SP1 (see my lastsession.ini attached).

Here's the System section from my C:\Windows\Setup\Last Session.ini for my last x64 install of integrated SP 1:

;# System #

Manual Install (Setup.exe)

Natural Language

Tablet PC

I turned several things off in "Windows Features On/Off" after the install. This was a live install of x64, not a virtual run. In the morning, I'm making an identical x86 to install on my other bootable partition. I'll post the results then.

EDIT: BTW, large files transfer rates are about 20% faster to/from my USB backup drive on SP 1. Anybody else seeing that large an increase? This is on x86 and x64.

Oh! Where is Windows Easy Transfer? I didn't see it on X64 SP 1. I'll check x86 SP 1 in the morning, but I don't think I've seen it there either.

Can you please wait for me to try it.

During current tests I have seen some connections with the Help / Tablet PC, so maybe Tablet PC is in your case as well, anyway SP1 added the extra layer to take care of regarding that cpanel feature.

LegoLiam™, yeah that was my mistake few times as well, when all is removed it is greater chance that it will work than when you keep some component which needs parts of the other and so on.

Not to mention that integrating hotfixes brings this to a whole new level of complexity. Btw SP1 is like a big hotfix.

Yep they are like big hotfixes, but i dont think you can go wrong with an MS preintegrated. I probably just removed Tablet PC and Help at the same time because i dont remove 1 at a time... too time consuming :P

P.S. I think its easier if you all just call me Lego, unless you just copied n pasted haha :D
