I am using a standalone IP for my Pc. It is configured to WORKGROUP. ipconfig/all gives the following.

Problem:

When connected to the network and tried to add this computer in domain, it gives an Error. The strange thing is I can access internet, but I cannot ping Gateway IP or any other IPs. There won't be any reply. I have tried to ping my IP from other computers, it works, I can see the reply.

Resolutions Tried:

After searching a lot in Google, I have done the following in a try to rectify the problem

>> Un-installed the Network adapter and re-installed it

Please suggest some way to resolve the solutions. I can't afford to re-install or repair the WinXP Prof again, because I have lot of applications installed in it, which I can't get them now, as I am on-site.

Any kind of help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Kiran Aketi

What's that Realtek connected to???

The IP shown implies a Local Area Connection generally used by Local Workgroups (the Workgroup Name) and/or PC's connected to a specific Server Domain (the joined-to Domain Name); also used in setting up Internet Connection Sharing and (?) Virtual PC connections...

If your Wireless is giving access to the Internet and the Realtek isn't connected to anything, then the IP's in question (on the Realtek) won't be accessible (not connected)... Noticed also that this is a Static IP setting (DHCP disabled), so, yep... hard-coded!

(not too familiar with Wireless... don't have it myself...; is this by chance a Laptop?)

When connected to the network and tried to add this computer in domain, it gives an Error

-What error ?

-Check computer name or IP are not already in use in the network. That would explain the "ping reply".

Please find the screen shot of the error I got attached to one of the reply. Our admin confirmed confirm that the IP is not being used by any other system.

"digitaldomain"?

Surely you're not trying to add youre computer to a domain named "digitaldomain" (www.digitaldomain.com)!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_name

http://www.petri.co.il/requirements_when_j...ng_a_domain.htm

Again, what is your Realtek (the NIC) connected to? (@work connection?) Can't see how you get internet access with a static ip unless it's connected to a router (and set up accordingly).

It would be better if you could explain the network topolgy in use (what OS is the server running and what functions it has, especially if it is set as a DNS server and the IP classes on your LAN).

Hello Everybody,

Thanks you all so much for showing interest in this topic. I have done a system repair, which solved the problem.

thanks again. Hope you extend your helping hand for others too.

regards,

Kiran Aketi
