I have a 18" LCD screen which is about 3 years old. The power seems to be fine and it gets a signal from my graphics card but it doesnt display anything on the screen. Its possibly a problem with the backlight/inverter.

Does anyone have any experience of repairing an LCD? Thanks.

Its definitely a hardware issue with the monitor. Windows boots fine with another screen.

If your Windows desktop resolution is set to say 1280 x 1024 @ 75Hz and the monitor in question does not support that resolution, it will stay black. On a different note, do you see the POST at all?

If it's only the backlight, then you'll be able to see an image on the screen if you shine a flashlight into it.
Indeed, and if it doesn’t show any thing then I think it’s the end of the board that controls the display or a cable issue.

No, that’s not a small problem you have there. Did you check the cable? Could be a bad contact, broken cable or worse, the board...
