smithxi Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 turned on the pc today and the screen started inverting colors at bootup. The disk I booted was actually a linux disk, but i usually run and prefer windows. Just a question before i go trying a new monitor, is this monitor related or video card? And don't say you don't know until you test it.
Kelsenellenelvian Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 It honestly really could be either.Monitors USSUALLY give warning before doing weird s*** like that though.
Fungus Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Motherboards usually have a beep code when there is a problem with the video card too.
magicfly Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 did you check the connection between mobo and video card? maybe there's some kind of problem in your bus pci/agp...just investigating...
smithxi Posted September 13, 2007 Author Posted September 13, 2007 (edited) i checked the cable, seating, bios and monitor. video card is definitely going, glad it didn't completely go, because it could be really bad for your system if it did. thanks for the replies.$140Chaintech nvidia 7600gs 512mbdefinitely was too good to be true! puntoMX Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 $140Chaintech nvidia 7600gs 512mbdefinitely was too good to be true!Well, if you just bought it it´s not cheap, how old is that card anyway?
smithxi Posted September 13, 2007 Author Posted September 13, 2007 gah it's 12 days older than a year; 12 days out of warranty!!!
puntoMX Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Most "non-web" shops will help you when it’s 12 days after warranty... They will avoid lawsuits, and yes, you can win one with a big chance: "Life expectations were to short!"

Does it look like a bunch of squares and/or letters with random colours on the BIOS and DOS screen?definitely was too good to be true! That sounds just like the Radeon 9800 Pro that I gotten back in late April. smithxi Posted September 14, 2007 Author Posted September 14, 2007 Weird thing, I pushed over a transistor that looked bent and I reinstalled it and now it's working fine again. Before it was like inverting the colors.
puntoMX Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 I’m almost sure that was not a transistor but a capacitor, transistors used on those cards are SMD.
RJARRRPCGP Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 capacitor, yes, my mistake.Darn! I wished that was the case with a Radeon 9800 Pro that I gotten for only around $25!
smithxi Posted September 14, 2007 Author Posted September 14, 2007 $24, wow, yeah I don't think I'll ever buy hardware the same again. It's getting so cheap, an AMD X2 was priced at $25 or $50, thats crazy.
