XPerties Posted January 24, 2002 Posted January 24, 2002 Ok this really isnt a help question more like a suggestion so I thought putting it here would give it more attention because Im now down to the min on what road to take.... Heres the thing: I now have my 80gig HD and tomorrow Im setting and moving everything to get my server going. Now this will be 24/7 server. My issue is I dont want to mess with linux and spend the time with it and learn, i need something that I can get around in so im down to a few choices or anything else you guys might recommend.....Now these are the base systems im thinking about but will also be running bulletproof as the main server app again unless you offer some other ways to go.... 98, 2000, XP, nt4 What do you think?????????? -Xperties
BAH Posted January 24, 2002 Posted January 24, 2002 I would personally use Win 2000 server without question.
FthrJACK Posted January 25, 2002 Posted January 25, 2002 win2k, maybe nt4 but id use 2k first and if it wasnt right switch to nt4, as for win98 id sooner use QNX or mandrake, mandrake is now apparently easier to install and setup than XP anyway...
Drewdatrip Posted January 25, 2002 Posted January 25, 2002 Im not sure about mandrake being simpler to install but it would be a good server Os..if your not bothering with linux then i would use Win2k advanced server. Its decently simple, and if you have used Win2k befor you should have no problems.-drew
EcPercy Posted January 25, 2002 Posted January 25, 2002 i believe that 2000 Server would serve all of your needs, but PM me if you want me to transfer my copy of the 2000 MSDN cd... it has 2000 PRO,2000 Server,2000 Advanced Serverthats my opinion...later!
