August 13, 200719 yr Short of calling HP for a replacement screen...probably not. The replacement screen will probably cost you as much as just purchasing a new laptop as well. We had to do that last year for one of our HP Compaq laptops and it cost us over $600US to have the screen replaced. We didn't pay much more than that for the laptop when it was originally purchased...
August 13, 200719 yr is it just the plastic pieces, or is the metal hinge assembly also broken?if the assembly is still intact, you could possible replace the bolts on it, and then just cover it with your favorite whatever.one of my college friends had an old laptop that was held together largely with duct tape, worked like a charm.is everything all about looking good? put some improv and your own style into it...makes it more you.
August 13, 200719 yr This is a very straight forward repair. I did a Sony Vaio a couple of months ago. You need to purchase a 'liquid damaged' laptop from eBay - these usually have the Screen (ie the LCD part), HDD, Memory and Battery removed as they are easily sold for spares - but the main plastics, hinge and lid plastics should all be intact. Then armed with a good screwdriver set, a steady hand and some patience you can transplant your motherboard, LCD Panel etc from one to the other.Good Luck! Edited August 13, 200719 yr by andrewpayne
August 13, 200719 yr Easy to do yes, savable yes, inexpensive maybe.You can try the eBay approach to find a matching screen, or you could try CHomPaq and see if they have a bezel, hinge and top available as parts to purchase. If you were to take it apart you should find part number like 123456-001 for each part you need to replace.
