OMG. Change that, and as soon as you can. Those are amongst the cheapest power supplies which are bound to explode. There's a bloody good chance of that. Buy yourself something solid and reliable like a Corsair 520W.

arghhh i had it built by a supposed "expert" i'll look into changing it

for the time being, will the sapphire run without any increased risk of exploding?

EDIT scratch that, i'm not getting a gfx card just to have it blown up by the psu, i'll get the psu first ;)

Good idea... because otherwise, your power supply could look like this image:

Reminds me of the infamous TigerPros... ****.

i can only see the last one, apparently tomshardware errors out on direct links to images (?) but i don't want my pc looking like the last image...

one more thing, is £15 more worth it for the xt version of sapphire x1950 rather than the pro?

It will give you 20% more FPS due to faster RAM, 1390MHz vs. 1800MHz, and The core runs just 27Mhz faster but that won’t give you so much.

So, what do you think? Is it worth it for you?

For some of us that OC and tweak it, the Pro will be a better choice...

i'll stick to the pro, i just got the pro

how do i disable the onboard video? i have an onboard intel 82915g on a gigabyte ga-8i915g-mf motherboard

i went in the bios (award modular bios) and there was disable onboard EVERYTHING from lan to the firewire port to the sound etc but nothing to do with graphics, vga, shared memory or anything like that? there's also no jumper or anything on my motherboard

NVM after ransacking the net (the gigabyte website was useless...) i found that my mobo automatically detects a new vga card

thanks guys!!

ok my m/b doesn't seem to be detecting the sapphire, the onboard card is still on and windows doesn't detect a new device. the gpu fan is spinning (kinda loud, hard to miss :P) and the extra 6-pin power connector is plugged in (direct from psu, not 4 pin molex adapter). what should I do? or do you think it's a problem with the card?

EDIT nvm solved it by upgrading the bios

One day you will be a technician or even an engineer ;).

I’m happy all works well now, so, how do you like your new toys?

lol thanks for that :D. I'd probably at least be better than the guy who built my pc (15A on the (only 1) 12V rail anyone? or how about onboard graphics are faster than pci-express x16 cards?)

i like my new "toys" very much thanks, my psu doesn't roar as soon as i turn it on and the gfx card runs aero :o not actually surprising for this card but when you've run on crappy onboard graphics that can't go aero you really notice the difference when you can. and let's not go into the games i've got for birthdays etc for my pc that couldn't run before because of the old integrated graphics...

EDIT just tried it, the x1950 pro doesn't like oc'ing too much, crashed after 3 mins in half life 2. it the requested specs in ati tray were only about 10mhz higher on default core frequency and ram :( oh well i'm happy with normal tweaks like aa, af etc for now :D
