Anyone know where Power Meter" comes from? I've never come across it before.

Ah, yes. Thanks, guys.

I don't use laptops and I've never knowingly used the 'advanced' power settings so I've no idea why 'power meter' was running. My machine is strangely powered - diagnostics have for many moons insisted that there is no battery!

then disable the power meter icon, plonkeroo. might have been a registry screw up somewhere but turning off the power meter icon should fix the problem
