  1. I've found a rather embrassing issue in xpize 5 Release 4: The icon cache isn't cleared. This explains why so many people were reporting not being able to see that many changes made to their computer. I've got Release 5 so that it will clear your cache.

    I386 Testing

Ahh whoops. I only tested it with European date format settings. In Europe we use 24-hour time (without the AM/PM specifier) I must have overlooked it. I'll fix it in Release 5.

    xpize 5 Release 4

Last info was, that he will release the final in one month or so... Much sooner, if I can help it. A major publication has contacted me, wanting to do an article about it.
  4. Its fine, because I think I did find a bug: If 3rd point (Anolis tools) was chosen and the download process has been canceled, while it was already started (back button), going through the 1st point does not work: it says, that the installation was successful directly after preparing of the package. I could reproduce this issue - is there somebody else, who has the same behavior? The problem isn't what you think it is. When you click "Back" as it downloads the Tools, it doesn't cancel the download, it keeps on downloading in the background, when the download finishes it'll immediately jump to the Finished page. I've modified the installer so the Back button is disabled when it's downloading the tools.

Zedox is back! Thanks for the feedback, I'll investigate.

    xpize 5 Release 4

The Icelandic domain name authorities have suspended my anol.is domain name because I'm having some problems with my DNS servers. If anyone has at least two BIND servers they wouldn't mind me borrowing for a few weeks, let me know. UPDATE: I've managed to get my DNS servers to be compliant with ISNIC once again, and anol.is is back online.

Thanks, that's helped me solve the problem. I've now fixed it in my internal builds.

...I was wrong about the version number thing. The issue is that my software isn't correctly reporting the currently installed service pack number. I've uploaded a new version of the ConditionTest program. Can you run it again and report the output? Thanks. http://w3bbo.com/misc/ConditionTest2.zip

Okay, well in the meanwhile use the "/ignoreCondition" switch (I renamed it from "/ignorePackageCondition") and it'll let you bypass the check. I wonder if anyone else has been having the same problem.

    xpize 5 Release 4

yojo, can you confirm you're using xpize 5 Release 4? The one without the photo of the Anole lizard in it? I ask because I (thought I) fixed the problem of it interpreting "5.1" as a decimal number regardless of culture.

That's not meant to happen Download this program and run it from the command-line: http://w3bbo.com/misc/ConditionTest.zip and paste the output here. Thanks

    xpize 5 Release 4

Just a quick note to say I've updated the xpize website with more up-to-date information regarding x64 support and the current state of xpize 5 (i.e. XPize 4.7 is now obsolete).
  14. My webserver statistics software tells me that xpize 5 Release 4 has been installed at least 9,000 times and downloaded fully about 13,000 times. (packageInfo.txt is requested every time xpize 5 Release 4 is installed; xpize5R4 has had 100,000 requests, but only 15,000 of those requests were actual humans requesting it, and about 13,000 of those requests were full downloads (228GB / 16.6MB = 13,000 full downloads) Not bad for a period of 24 hours, eh? I'm working on the upcoming Release 5 which should be the final release of xpize, it fixes all the bugs reported and adds a few features. Of note, xpize 5 Release 4 includes the "Royale Lite" visual style, but never installs it. Whoops.
  15. MrBusty siad there were a few strings he'd like to update in his German translation, so I've uploaded the latest version of all the string tables to my website. I'm currently having problems with the Icelandic domain name registrar, which is why http://anol.is is currently down, if anyone's asking. Now then, you can download the latest string tables and Localizer tool from here: http://www.w3bbo.com/misc/Translations20090724.zip I'd like to request that the Lang_Attribution string is changed to be in this format: "Translated by %yourNameHere%" rather than it just being your name. Also, note that I have modified some of the localised strings, so you should double-check all of them to ensure they match the english originals. ...and that should be everything. Sorry about the Localization tool not supporting RTL text, I didn't think it was worth the effort for 2 languages. zh.resx is Traditional Chinese, zh2.resx is Simplified Chinese. I'm wondering if I should use the PRC flag for Simplified and the Taiwan flag for Traditional, but I don't want to start an international incident here.

    Logon Screen

I'll admit that right now the current scheme selector system isn't very user friendly, nor is it obvious what happens: The different "schemes" (xpize Darkside, MCE, etc) are just a massive list of operations to perform on various Windows files. Each of these schemes does the same operation, but such that it makes it match a particularl colour scheme. If you check all of them then it means it will install all of them at the same time, overwriting the changes made by the previous operation on the same file. I'm investigating and experimenting with ways to make this more user friendly. Your tree list should look like this if you want the Blue welcome screen:

    Logon Screen

Sure. Just re-run the installer, but uncheck everything on the tree list, then expand MCE and at the bottom there's an entry for the Logon Screen, so just check that and it'll install just that, then reboot and voila.

    xpize 5 Release 4

You can... but it isn't recommended. If you've got a system that's already for 4.7 on it and you want to "upgrade" sure, it should work, but isn't a tested scenario. But there's no advantage in installing 4.7 and then 5, because 5 includes everything that was in 4.7 (and 3.2) except for the eDonkey skin. I'll be releasing a command-line program that can do that for you.

    xpize 5 Release 4

Only a few minor things. But I also organised a few things too. I don't understand what you're saying fully. I'm afraid that's not currently possible. It's a bigger undertaking than you think: *.resx files are compiled into *.resources files which are binary before being embedded in CLR executables. Whilst it is possible to read in a *.resx file at runtime and use as a source of resources, it would mean rearchitecting my current software which assumes the resource strings are all built-in. The strings are designed such that they won't need improvement. There's no need. You only need to identify strings that are the same (untranslated, in purple) or empty/null (undefined, in red). I think you're using an older build that doesn't have the purple color. I can easily add Sorting, but not Searching. Don't tell me or post about it, just add it to your updated German table when I'm done. Your posts are long enough as it is. Good to hear. Actually, I take it back. This may affect Spanish versions, based on the few anecdotal reports I've received. Well, if I choose the second option, the textbox is empty... I thougth, the path to the latest uninstall package could be placed there already (because many people may not know, where to find the right folder again) Oh sorry. I was talking about when you uninstall from the Add/Remove Programs control panel. The text isn't filled in when you run the installer normally because there's no way of telling where the user saved the backup to (and before you suggest using a registry key, remember that different packages might be installed in different orders). Yes, and it's a minor bug in the Installer's code, nothing in xpize itself and so not a showstopper nor does it affect what the program actually does, that's why I'm saying it's not a big deal. Each visual style adds about a megabyte to the size of distribution. I'm tempted to remove the Embedded VS because it isn't that good. Should I also remove the Zune VS? "As many as is possible". Remember, not every icon or toolbar button can be updated, see Wordpad for example, those toolbar buttons are hardcoded to 16-color and there's nothing I can really do about it. You'd have to hack it together using a visual style editor. You can use Resourcer for that, but it's a lot of work.

I don't think I did anything wrong there. Can you advise me on how to correct it?

I can't seem to reproduce this on my computer. Are you using any custom display settings? I note you're already using large icon spacing.
