  1. There are various ways perhaps you could achieve this different methods will depend on your network and complexity. One way if say using Cisco routers would be to use extended ACL's that way you could block on protocol, ports source/destination IP etc. Another way if these clients dont need to get off the local network could be to remove the default gateway and use a host file to block cerian url's for example 127.0.0.1 www.doubleclick.net and use GPO to stop the users changing the local computers tcp/ip settings. another way is to use configure IPSec policy using ip filtering i have never done this so dont know how flexible it is. It would certianly block all trafic to and from a client! Try searching for more info if these topics are of interest. If you dont get any where let me no and i will see if i can find any links to do with the IPSec bit
  2. "Boot disk" is open to interupitation for example it could be that you want to create the 4 disks to enable you to for example install windows 2k as dirtwarrior mentioned or it could be you just need a diskette to boot a system where the boot files are corrupt or deleted. In which case you just need a good formated diskette with the following files on it NTLDR BOOT.INI NTDETECT.COM of course the boot.ini file must point to the right location for win2k to find the rest of the boot files on the hard drive
  3. well you can install hotfixes etc during runoncex..... also my understanding was that any patches etc that replace files for example ie6 would not be over written when you install that package later as the files in the package would be older than those already installed. The newer ones would be kept. If im wrong please correct me
  4. for windowx xp I create a folder in i386 called update and put all hotfixes etc in there (darn stupid wirless keyboard!! ) along with update.exe amd qchain. and make the svcpack.inf reflect this. you can then create the following \$OEM$\$1\install and put stuff like directx, media player and ie6 install packages in this folder along with a batch file called main_batch.cmd (or anything you like really) as this is called from the winnt.sif file. This batch will be summit like below and will install the packages you want. You can of course use RunOnceX. ECHO. ECHO Installing MediaPlayer 9.0 ECHO Please wait... start /wait %systemdrive%\install\MPSetupXP.exe /q ECHO. ECHO Installing DirectX 9.0b ECHO Please wait... start /wait %systemdrive%\install\Directx9b\DirectX9\dxsetup.exe /windowsupdate Remeber thought that the install folder gets copied to the harddrive. Hope this helps
  5. This my save a lot of time trying to figure whats wrong! Symptom: You reboot any version of windows, and it hangs at "applying computer settings". If a server everything works but you cant logon. You boot to safe mode, check the event logs and all is ok. IF you are running APC's power chute older then v7 and this problem started around 27/07/2k5 then beleave it or not it is this most likely causing the issue. Uninstall power chute or if unable, unistall java or disable the APC client server services and the system will boot normally and you'll be able to logon to the desktop. You'll then need to ensure you have java 1.4.1 installed at the latest version of power chute v7. Installation must be in the following order, agent, server, console and they must all have the same logon info. http://www.apcc.com/tools/download/...704&id=125&tsk= This definitely worked in my case, (was running 2k3 server APC power chute 6.2.2)
  6. thnxs for reply, It is set that way in winnt.sif. But i'm of the opinion now that the installshield installation is overriding these and other settings
  7. well i do the same REG ADD %KEY%\005 /VE /D "ATi Video" /f REG ADD %KEY%\005 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\ATi\Driver\setup.exe %systemdrive%\install\ATi\Driver\setup.iss -s" /f REG ADD %KEY%\005 /V 2 /D "%systemdrive%\install\ATi\CPanel\setup.exe %systemdrive%\install\ATi\CPanel\setup.iss -s" /f tho for completeness, as i have had some wierd probs in the past, i have specified the full path every time only problem i get is the whql warning screen and no one seems able to tell me how to get round it!!
  8. you could try looking here it might have the answer http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=33028 or try manually adding the following at the end of the iss file [{9B94BE6F-7CA3-4C40-A266-62667FF746CC}-SdFinishReboot-0] Result=6 BootOption=0 i think that would work
  9. Please assist....... I seem to have lots of enteries in these files for ATi driver. How do i work out which enteries to remove. I would like to understand and learn so help will be appreciated
  10. OK, i stopped getting side track and found this link http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...11entry285511 now i just have to understand wot to do, i'm still learning and like a kid in a candy store
  11. Hopefully got peeps attention Please can someone (Bâshrat the Sneaky) answer a question for me. How can i get round the issue of the "do you want to install this unsigned driver" prompt when doing a uacd install, am using the runoncex method, is there a simple answer (without using driver pack as i dont have space or getting a qualified driver) or do you need to run a script?? I have tried searching the forums..... unfortunately there is so much good stuff here i get a little sidetracked PS as this is a driver question releated to uacd i thought id start here. Appologies if it isn't
  12. Just to clear up a point..... I was told that they must be installed in KBXXXXX number order? Have i been misled
  13. Thnxs for the reply, i'd already been there but i need to understand how to stop this message box poping up during uscd installs. Unfortunately space on the disk is a premium, therefore dont have room for his hard work
  14. I'm installing ATi driver during my uacd install using RunOnceEx method but i seem not able to get round the problem of the Driver signature message and having to press enter to ignore. Is there a way of a silent install using this method that gets round this without getting certified drivers?? many thanks
  15. I'd like that answered as well plzzz, i have made an educated guess which will prolly prove to be wrong
  16. Thnxs for the reply.... but i already knew how to do this and dont need to retreive key from reg as we have the COA stuck on the puters, the problem is how do we work out how to tie these keys to a particular cd
  17. I posted earlier and it seems to have disappeared? We have puters with genuine cd-keys but cant find the disk they were installed from. Is there a way of working out which cd/type they were installed from? Are there only so many keys that will work with a particular cd-key are they tied to the volume label like the volume labels below? English Windows XP Professional Retail - WXPFPP_EN English Windows XP Professional Upgrade - WXPCCP_EN English Windows XP Professional OEM - WXPOEM_EN English Windows XP Professional Corporate/Volume - WXPVOL_EN
  18. i'm new to this bit on uacd but looks like the following is missing SET KEY=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx without it %key% means nothing therefore it wont run
  19. ECHO. ECHO Installing DirectX 9.0c ECHO Please wait... start /wait %systemdrive%\install\Directx9c\dxsetup.exe /silent works for me everytime
  20. OK.... where to download HB892130 from i tried and cant find?? :edit typing like this im not surprised i cant find it lol
  21. if I have subnet 10.2.162 and another one is 10.2.163, both are an 8 count. Will is still know what 3 letter site to assign, or will it just grab the first 8 count suubet? The answer is yes! When the script retrieves the ip address of the local puter in question this number (8, 7 etc) is used to get only the digits of th ip address you are interested in (network portion). This is why the conditions used will only work with basic subnets(255.255.255.0 - 255.255.0.0 etc). more complex conditions would have to be applied if a class C ip address was subnetted by say 255.255.255.224. this line if AMSsubnet = LEFT(IPConfig.IPAddress(i),9) then uses the number 9 in this case to count from the left of the value contianed in IPAddress (eg 192.168.1.254) that number of places to the right (192.168.1) and compare the result to AMSsubnet if they are equal then carry out the next lines. Hope this makes it clear
  22. well i have had a quick look at the script.... and you havent changed the number that this line usies. if AMSsubnet = LEFT(IPConfig.IPAddress(i),9) then the number nine is used to strip off the unwanted digits from the IP address (host portion), therefore it needs to be equal to the total number of digits including the "." of the network portion of the IP address used on this line AMSsubnet = "10.2.144" ie AMSsubnet is 8 ATLsubnet is 7 Otherwise the conditions used in the elsif lines will never be true and therefore blank name! Hope this sorts it
  23. I can say that i have had no issue's getting the computer in question to jion domian using [identification] DomainAdmin="DomainAccount" DomainAdminPassword="password" JoinDomain = "DomainName" with unattended install BUT they have all been fairly new computers. Having said that i'm looking into a problem at the moment which is sorta related. The problem i have is that i have also set the autologin functionality but it fails to login when i check the registry the domain name has been set the same as the computer name????? This is strange as the computerhas been added to the domain If any1 has any suggestions about this i'd be interested
  24. Glad it appears to do the trick!! My appologies the code i posted was a mod of some code i wrote to do something similar and i forgot to add set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") But your line is just as good If these puters are in an AD enviroment it would be better to change their names via a logon script but yes if the subnet is the same you can create any number of lines to check for (might get even messier) Just add a line at the top for network in question AMSsubnet = "192.168.0" DMZsubnet = "10.1.1" and add the follow for each network Elseif DMZsubnet = LEFT(IPConfig.IPAddress(i),6) then The code will work for any subnet as long as it is in the form 255.255.255.0, 255.255.0.0, 255.0.0.0 and you adjust the relevant parts to suite, otherwise the code that does the comparison gets more complex.
