How to give VISTA the performance of Xp for gaming?
Tripredacus replied to twista's topic in Windows Vista
Wow, 50+.... that ust mean I am REALLY old... -
Urban Terror? Actually I don't like games "like" Counterstrike... If its tactical squad based stuff in particlar, check out the newer Rainbow Six and SWAT titles.

You know what, we learned the hard way that Sysprep is designed to disable the NIC at the time of activation. Perhaps that is what you are experiencing?

I just realised that I have a WIM file that requires a more descriptive name for one of the images in it. I know that the WIM has an XML file for the image name/description, but how do I modify that? It cannot be done by mounting the image... EDIT: dopey me... I asked because I was using the imagex tool but it wasn't working. Here is the code: imagex /info e:\images\a410xp.wim 1 "XP Home Drive C" imagex /info e:\images\a410xp.wim 2 "ETC XP Pro Drive C" where 1 or 2 is the image index number, and the part in quotes is the new name. You can check that you updated properly by not having any args after the image name.

Not only did I find that out... I figured that the volume ID would start at zero but it starts at one instead. I also realised that since I wasn't creating an EFI or other special partition, the recovery partition wasn't required to be part 1, so I changed the pathing and it now works properly.

Also check the motherboard manual for slot placement.

Can somebody give me a link to a Windows Media Player .flv Codec?
Tripredacus replied to jumail's topic in Windows XP
I wasn't aware that WMP had the ability to play Flash movies... The stand-alone Flash Player gets installed when you install Flash (not Shockwave and not the plug-in) or you can get the new version called Adobe Media Player: http://www.adobe.com/products/mediaplayer/ -
I believe you are referring to the Site License version of XP.... "Corporate" edition is the term for pirated versions of Windows and probably isn't allowed to be discussed here.

Thanks Cluberti, Its the Barracuda that we use. I was trying to remember it earlier but kept getting it confused (in my head) with a device I had used at a previous job... Which was the ADC Cuda 1000 CTMS.

I like them actually. I learned a lot by looking up those hex codes and errors and whatnot. Its better than getting a bomb or a question mark on a Mac where your fix is to reboot and hope for the best, or run the repair with the CD. I like getting in there and fixing those things. I remember when Windows 2000 came out, Microsoft used to run 2 page (gatefold) ads with a BSOD on it. I remember cutting all those out and covering my cubicle with them at the time.

As great as the reviews of their previous Raptor drives were, I couldn't get over the amount of noise these drives generated. Hopefully these smaller ones will be quieter.

I think the switch I'm using is unmanaged. It is a Netgear ProSafe 24 Port Gigabit Switch, model JGS524. There is another server in the environ, and it is also a 2003 Server Standard. Its primary function is to act as DHCP, as I set this up the same as the tutorial I wrote a while back in the WinPE forum. It isn't anything close to being reliable, which is why it only does DHCP. It was our old Ghost server and we kept it around because it locks up when you try to copy anything off of it in large numbers. It also has a RAID array (i forget which number... the one that takes multiple drives and creates one volume) but its currently missing about 1/4 of a TB because at least one drive had fallen off the array. I am not sure if this other computer is capable of being a "transport server" as I am not entirely certain what that entails. I can't make any changes to this environ ATM because I am deploying an image to machines we can't otherwise image.... Ones with those garbage software controlled by the BIOS Broadcom 57 NICs that aren't compatible with the version of Ghost we use.... When that order is finished then I will try to get my hands on a PC to put 2k8 on.

I've never actually used My Documents to store anything. All of my experiences using profile storage at companies ALWAYS had some sort of rule or regulation that data be kept somewhere else. Either on a network share, or with one company, in c:\data. So I only keep my stuff in c:\data if I am keeping anything on the C drive. Other drives just act like a big data folder to me. I've had to learn the hard way of keeping stuff in the profile storage, or at least not me but users I had supported.

Unfortunately, I live in an old house that doesn't have a lot of power outlets, so we can only have 2 PCs set up... and a port for a third (notebook) if needed. Verizon DSL | Linksys BEFSR41 | | | XP Pro PC XP Pro PC So we don't have much going on there. I've got about 8 other computers I'd like to at least try using but like I said, the power situation is pretty lacking.

I don't see a place where there is a list of the supported CPU models like that. You are using the NL site which is a little different than what I am used to. We never used a Yonah CPU before, and frankly this was the first time I'd heard of it! Is there a big difference in those two CPUs? -
and This is from the WinPE doc under ImageX Command-Line Options.

Hmmm we don't use server side anti-span protection here... we've got some hardware device that acts as a mail-filter/mail-exchanger before the messages get delivered to the exchange server.

We are currently testing WDS on this computer, and I had started using it before 2008 was made available to us. We now have it and are also testing that separately (or so I am told). The plan is to have a REAL server running 2008 that will be running WDS at some point in the future. I am using the version of WDS that comes with 2008 so the transition will be easy once we get that thing running. So in essense I am running 4 unicast connections from the same file? When our MS guy came to visit, I was disappointed to learn that WDS doesn't manage anything... It would be nice if they gave it some management capabilities in a future version. It has 1 80GB SATA HDD as the OS and 1 160GB SATA HDD as the fileshare.

Does your board have an 8x slot? I bought an 8x AGP card recently, but I run it at 4x because the slot in my computer is 1x2x4x.

You can research most processes by name online. There are a bunch of websites that tell you what processes are. I haven't had trouble finding anything online yet. Just type in '"process.exe" process'. But of course use your app name and no single quotes.

Have you tried the volume up and down function keys? Also you could consider using headphones if your job allows it.

THat thar sounds like Hybernate instead of sleep. How are you putting it in that mode? Are you clicking the red button, or try clicking the arrow next to it and choose sleep instead. It might say Suspend... I forget the term it uses.

Besides working with WDS I also have a hobby of modifying computer games. The current one I am researching for uses a modified Glide engine (OpenGL really) and I have been able to figure out all the files except these GLD files. It is a 3D game and I have already learned how to change the textures and the models and what not, but I'm now looking for the texture map, which I am betting is in these GLD files I have found that have the same filename as the base models that the game uses. But I am at a loss as to trying to find ANYTHING that can make, import, view, etc them. The only thing I have to go on is that the file header (in hex) says BILG, but I'm still not able to figure it out. If anyone has any ideas, let me know.

Aopen MP945-VXR mini pc CRT monitor problem

As a recent example, we had a couple MP965 units running non-stop for the past two months, both in Windows. We didn't get around to do anything with them until yesterday when I reimaged them. They both were sitting on the cardboard box they come with, and the Driver CD inside was HOT... Could've burned the place down lol.
