Question about Slipstreaming SP2/future revisions
dcromwell replied to dcromwell's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
This is what I have done and it works beautifully. -
How does one go about making it so that WMP9 is not installed with the SP2 update? I also have WM10. If possible, I would prefer it to be installed instead of WMP9. Is there a value I can add in my winnt.sif to prevent this (as is the case with Windows Messenger, ClipBook Viewer, etc.)...???

It turns out that I have that line in my .reg file. However, it didn't work for me. Should the dword be 1?

Question about Slipstreaming SP2/future revisions
dcromwell replied to dcromwell's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I would concur that that is probably the "best bet" and would definitely insure that everything works as it should. Has anyone tried integrating SP2 on top of an older verstion though? It should replace any of the bad files...??? -
I am very close to what I consider to be my perfect Unattended CD. I have every application that I need to have installed on my DVD and it functions beautifully. I have a few preferences that should be able to be set up through my .reg file but I can't seem to find them here (I will admit that I haven't searched all 50 pages of this thread). Here are the settings I would like. 1) "Turn on" Quick Launch bar 2) Explorer - "Uncheck" the Hide Extensions for Known Files 3) Internet Explorer - Turn off AutoComplete totally (it is off for webforms but I would like to turn it "off" for Usernames and passwords on forms and Prompt me to save passwords. Thanks in advance.

There is no difference in the method of the disc whether it is CDR, CDRW, DVD+R, DVD-R, DVDRW, etc. Check out http://unattended.msfn.org/ for more information on how to make the CD bootable. See the "Finalising your Unattended CD"

Well, after my issues with the NTFS.SYS and then the Indeo codec files (which I researched and was able to correct this little bug) I have come up with an Unattended XP SP2 disk which works beatifully. I now have a quick question. Is it possible to integrate future releases (beta or otherwise) of XP SP2 "on top of" an older version? Or do I have to start over from my SP1A CD again?
-
Before I integrated my cd with SP2, I had the Q828026 installing more or less as an application (you can do it from a applications.cmd or hotfixes.cmd, just make sure you have them in your winnt.sif file) because (as you pointed out) it will not install from the svcpck.inf

Cool. So I didn't do anything wrong. I will research the other threads about those files. I appreciate your time and help. I still don't understand why the SP1A without the unattended stuff works fine with the SP2 integration but the SP1A unattended DVD corrupts the NTFS.SYS file with the SP2 integration... I will enjoy making another unattended DVD... either that or I will just copy the files over and make it easy on myself...

I just tried something on a hunch. I have an old XP Pro CD that I made with only the slipstream of SP1A. The rollup is not there and it is not an unattended disc. I tried the SP2 integration (with the /integration switch) and saved the ISO. I then downloaded and installed VirtualPC 2004 from Microsoft. It got passed the NTFS.SYS with no problems! Not sure what is on the unattennded disc that is causing the corruption with SP2 and NTFS.SYS. I did encounter a few errors when copying files over though. About 98% of the way through the DOS portion of copying files (immediately after formatting), I got quite a few messages about not being able to copy files. The file names include: i2c25-32.ax ir41-32.ax ir41-qc.dll ir41-qcx.dll ir50-32.dll as well as some others. I got this error both from VirtualPC and the CD I burned as well. Asside from those errors, the integration worked well and Windows XP installed with SP2. No other errors were encountered. I have no idea what those files are for though and where it is calling them from. I will also try the SP2 slipstream with the /s option and see if it makes a difference.

Can someone attach or at least link to their ntfs.sys file. I am not sure if it would help or not but it is worth a shot. By the way, I have the Technical Preview of RC1. Not sure if it matters or not. (Is there something different about the Technical Preview of RC1 and the true beta of RC1? On the Microsoft XP SP2 Technical Preview site, it mentions that it is based on Release Candidate 1 of the SP2.

I have been doing this all along. The /integrate switch does the exect same thing as the update.exe /sC:\XPCD I still get the NTFS.SYS is corrupted error.
-
I will try this. Can I slipstream right over SP1A?
-
The NTFS.SYS file from SP1A did not work. I got an even worse error message... Looks like I will just add the SP2 as an application and install it that way instead of slipstreaming. I am tired of wasting DVDs. (Yes, I know about VirtualPC and VMWare).....
-
I wasn't talking about copying them over later. I am talking about copying the old (off of the slipstreamed SP1A DVD) over and replacing the new NTFS.SYS file. The file version would be different but at least it wouldn't be corrupt....
-
Thanks neophyte...

Do a google search for - SP2 +uxtheme.dll You can find it there.

Just burned a DVD with the new integration of SP2 and I am still getting the NTFS.SYS error.....

SP2 integration into XP Pro SP1A unatteneded
dcromwell replied to dcromwell's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I am trying to integrate it using this method - SP2\i386\update\Update.exe /integrate:C:\XPCD SP2\i386\update\Update.exe /integrate:C:\XPCD I am integrating SP2 onto a XP Pro SP1a unattended disk. Is this the proper way of doing it? Or is the update.exe -S:"path" a better way of doing it? Could this also be what is causing my NTFS.SYS problem? -
SP2 integration into XP Pro SP1A unatteneded
dcromwell replied to dcromwell's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Thanks for your info RyanVM. I have the 2126 versio so I will remove DirectX9b as well. When you refer to the rollup, are you referring to the KB826939.cat file? I guess I am not to sure what I need to keep for this to work properly and not be redunant (installing fixes that the SP2 addresses). What exactly do I need in the \I386\update directory and what should be in my svcpack.inf file? -
I do not use VirtualPC so I am not sure if it works or not. I just re-integrated SP2 so I will see if it works. I don't have a problem with FAT32.SYS, just the NTFS.SYS file. I will see if the new integration works now.

Here is some more information. This error is occurring when booting from the CD. It is at the very beginning of the DOS portion of the install (where it asks about installing a third-party raid driver, etc.). It gets up to the fat32.sys file and then comes to an error stating that the FAT32.SYS file is corrupt. Can I just copy the fat32.sys file from my SP1 CD????
-
Forgot to mention one thing. The only thing that I know that I did differently on this DVD is that I didn't finalize it, but that shouldn't cause the error...???
-
I decided to give it a shot and burn my DVD with SP2 integrated into my normal XP Pro SP1A unattended DVD. Upon bootup I get an error stating that the file NTFS.SYS is corrupt. It then forces a reboot. Anyone know what could cause this?
