Unattended Shockwave and Flash players
dcromwell replied to snorkel89's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Does anyone have the direct link for the shockwave download? The above link is to the flash (http://www.macromedia.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_msi) Also, where do I go to sign up for the Corporate Versions downloads? I did this before but I can't remember where to do it on the Macromedia website. -
Unattended with multiple hard drives
dcromwell replied to dcromwell's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Thanks for the help. I too had a sick feeling when I noticed what it was doing. Luckily the drive didn't need formatting because there was no OS on the drive previously. It just started copying files. So I didn't lose any data. 100 GB of very important data wouldn't be fun to lose! -

I have a question concerning unattended install with multiple hard drives. How does one go about making the C: drive the only available drive to install XP on? (During the text portion of the unattened install)? I just added a second hard drive (for backup and music storage). It is formatted as NTFS but there is no OS installed on the drive (nor will there be). I just updated my unatteded DVD with SP2 2162 and threw in the CD. I had to reset my computer when it by default detected no OS present on the second hard drive and automatically started copying files to it. What do I change in my winnt.sif file to make the default drive (or only drive) to install XP on?

Even if someone were to manage to code a perfect OS with NO security holes, there still WOULD be a NEED for patches. New technology comes available all the time. If I build an OS based on today's standards, what do you do when PCI-X comes out and you don't support it? You have to write an update (ie, PATCH) to be able to support the new hardware... And security holes aren't always based on errors in the OS. Many exploits exploit features of the OS that ARE coded correctly. Regardless the size of the OS or how many errors may be in it at the beginning, patches will always be required. Mac OS X was built from the ground up. Support for older software programs is done by emulating another version of Mac OS instead of basing the OS on that and recoding (ie, Windows XP and it's notorius Legacy support). It is a VERY well written OS and it still requires patches....

I just wanted to let you all know that I successfully integrated SP2 Build 2144 over SP2 Build 2142. The update /integrate:X:\XXX method replaces/deletes all of the older SP2 files. This is also integrated over a XP SP1A Corp. disc. This might save all of you some time instead of having to bring out your original XP CD and copy the files and then copy over the files in the previous SP2 build's $OEM$ directory you can just copy everything from your last SP2 CD and then integrate the new SP2 build on top of it... Only problem I am having (since 2138) is my nVidia drivers not installing. I even downloaded beta drivers from guru3d and it still didn't install my video drivers during the XP setup stage...

I just noticed that the video drivers for my nVIDIA based video card didn't install properly. Here is a section of my winnt.sif file (which up until now has worked properly). [Unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemSkipEula=Yes OemPreinstall=Yes TargetPath=\WINDOWS UnattendSwitch="no" DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore OemPnPDriversPath="\install\Audio\Drivers\WIN2K_XP;\install\video" My audio drivers install without any problems. I also tried installing the video drivers with the applications.cmd file and I got an error stating that the drivers I wanted to install were older than what was currently installed (56.72 drivers were released April 1st). Wouldn't the OemPnPDriversPath force XP to use these drivers? The only thing else that I can think of that has recently changed about my unattended process is the way that I make the .iso file. I used to use winISO but since my DVD is over 3GB, it won't create the .iso properly (it always gives me an error). I am now using the Microsoft's CD Image tool from the official MSFN's Unattended XP CD guide. One thing I did notice about this tool was that it sets the date of all of the files to 12/31/2002. Could this be the problem. Is there another way to creat a a bootable ISO? I use Nero 6.3.1.15 to burn my DVDs. Another thing I will say is that with the RC1 version of SP2 my video drivers installed properly and I believe I used the Microsoft CD Image tool to create my ISO. I guess that it is possible that SP2 2142 includes and updated nv4_disp.ini file. Would replacing the nv4_disp.in_ file in the i386 directory with the one from nVIDIA fix this problem? Would I need to use the PE utility and then makecab? Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

How to use updates to office with SP3
dcromwell replied to koden's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
install\Aplications Was this it? -
I slipstreamed 2142 and installed it (via unattended) this morning. Everthing works great except that I can not add a network place by clicking on My Network Places and then Add a network place. I get the normal screen however it just "sits" on the "Downloading information from the internet" part. The scroll bar is active and it just continually scrolls by from left to right and never stops. It does this regardless of whether or not the firewall is on or off. I can see the other computers in my network when I click on view workgroup computers but I can not add them to My Network Places... Any suggestions?

Did you slipstream it over a SP1 slipstream? -
SP2 2138 and 2142 SLIPSTREAMING - ERROR?
dcromwell posted a topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I just downloaded and slipstreamed SP2 2142 (and 2138) to test. The integration showed no errors. Everything else is the same as my previous SP2 installs. However with the new versions I get a large white screen during the XP installation somewhere near the 19 minute mark (it could be less than this as the 19 minute mark was the last time I checked it before I saw the error). Is this happening to anyone else??? -
There are many people with XP Corp that don't have any problems slipstreaming the new versions of SP2. There are some that do. It is because of the PID. There is NO activation of XP Corp... However, SP2 won't install without a proper PID format... At least this is how I understand it...
-
I just downloaded SP2 2138 from the Microsoft Windows Update site. Can someone tell me if the PID for XP SP2 with a VLK is supposed to be XXXX-640 or 642, 645, etc. so the problem about activation doesn't occur during install.

I use Kazaa Resurection .75 (or something like that) and it does the same thing.

Email settings Outlook 2003
dcromwell replied to dkreifus's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
The ORK is a great utility! I have my profile saved in my .MST file and it works like a charm. Even saves your "stationary" info and signature info (just remember to copy the files to the same directory each time). The only thing I haven't figured out is how to save your specific email account settings (SMTP, POP, settings, etc.)... -
I just copied these files from my original XP Pro CD and put them into the i386 directory of the slipstreamed Sp2. Works great. Can you say deja vu?

Playing a song during installation
dcromwell replied to firstcircle's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I load my audio (and video) drivers in the winint.sif file. With the slipstreaming of SP1A they included some sort of weird melody when it comes time to "set up" your internet connection, register XP if you choose and add your user account names. I install my applications from an applications.cmd file and this runs after the above. I am not sure if they would be loaded already with the RunOnceEx method or not. Another question I am unsure of is how you could play a song via the command line. Does mplayer2.exe support command line? I typed mplayer2.exe /h and it opened Windows Media Player 6 and didn't show anything about any options... I realize this doesn't help you that much but I only know what I know... -
WMP9 & SP2, prevent install?
dcromwell replied to dcromwell's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Nope. I haven't tried it and I don't want to try your program either... As for "there has to be a way" I mean through the winnt.sif or other similar method. -
WMP9 & SP2, prevent install?
dcromwell replied to dcromwell's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Surely there has to be a way for you to prevent the install. Hopefully the final release of SP2 will have WMP10... -
I have just a few more registry tweaks that I am looking for. Here they are... Explorer - Display Full Path in title bar (I want this turned ON by default) Disable Error Reporting (not the service, as I have that entry). I have seen some settings to Disable Error Reporting with notifications of critical errors turned on. I want this turned OFF. Internet Exploere - Autocomplete with ALL options off. I have a setting now that still uses autocomplete to store and suggest passwords. I want this turned totally OFF.

It turns out that I have that line in my .reg file. However, it didn't work for me. Should the dword be 1? Actually, it did work with the dword of "0". I was looking at the wrong setting...

Is there a command I can put in the winnt.sif that will prevent WMP9 from installing???
